How unfathomably stupid.

Around here for Isabel there were immense numbers of complaints regarding "the next block" getting power long before a person did, etc.

Power grids are complex, and have to be restored in a certain order, an order which often doesn't quite make logical sense. And there's a physical limit to how fast they can be repaired.

And the people best qualified to give the sort of precise time schedules that people demand for when their power is back on are precisely the people busy repairing the system, and simply having them create a time estimate would LENGTHEN the time it takes to get power back on.

this is typical of "Florida" impact areas...
hurricanes are terrible events. We know that.
I almost want to throw up when i see poeple
on TV complaining about how bad theyt have it.
If you are alive... then you faired well!

you never... ever see Mississippi, Alabama, Texas
or Louisisanaians complaining about the problem...
they step up and ask what they can do to help.

I remember Camille vividly... The community was
the support group... yes, Red Cross and the National
guard were there... and appreciated. But we took
care of each other... we knoew it would take time
to get power... and we knew they were doing there
best....

the power company there has help form Luoisiana,
Miss, Al, and Tx power companies...

I don't mean to sound harsh... or maybe i do...
bottom line is it's not political... it's hard work.
those power guys are working long long hard hard
hours... if you're complaining... pick up a rake
and a shovel and go help the guy next door... or
down the street... it'll make you feel better. makes
you feel like part of the solution...

Those people have a right to complain.... after 6 weeks without power, until THEN, quit complaining. It was a major hurricane, here in NC some people didn't get power for 8 weeks after Fran, Floyd, or the big ice storm. Heck we were happy to be alive and have a home.

My, my how spoiled we have become! Be grateful for those who have left their homes and families to help ya'll out. Be thankful you still have a home. Consider yourself lucky that it's just electricity and not your home or one of your loved ones.

BTW...how can they charge you for electricity when it's not on?

During the aftermath of Andrew, I did an interview with the guy who was heading up all the electrical teams who were there. He said, and I'll never forget it..."As much as people hate hiring an electrician, most of us really enjoy that when we leave someone's home we've gotten their life back to normal. These guys here are working 18 hours a day and feel like they've barely made a dent." And then, this big tough guy from Georgia started crying. :(

Just curious, but what kind of company is KUA? Are they receiving any outside help?

There obviously has been quite a bit of debris down in heavily wooded areas that has
caused this 10+ days without power portions of southwestern and central Florida.

I can see the reason to be upset, but at the same time understanding that the crews are
trying their hardest getting people back online.

This post brought back a memory from Andrew. Sitting on my front porch because we had no electricity trying to catch a breeze. I am looking at the cross street 3 houses down with electricity and there is a coca-cola machine on at a business there!!!!! A good cold one would have felt good right then.

A good buddy of mine that I went through college with is top dog at KUA, I'll see to it you get your power back by midnight.

Nah...... just kidding. :D

I feel for you all man, it is hot, it is humid as all get out, it keeps on raining and raining and life has changed down your way. Keep your chin up and just keep thinking that as soon as the power is on, it will just be a memory like others have told about here.

My power was out here in Ormond Beach (near Daytona) for 4 days while others never lost power. It helped me to take a drive just before heading to bed and turning the A/C to zero degrees. By the time I got home, the wife and kids and I were freezing and asleep before we defrosted. LOL :)

PERSPECTIVE

 100 years from now at 10:00 o'clock in the morning, this won't have made any difference.

 Put this situation in light of eternity. Kind of shrinks problems down to a bite size.

Check out Job chapter 37...... take a cool drink from this well of wisdom.

RANT ON
I am in the area working orlando down through Bartow. waverly Dundee winter haven etc.

I can't believe the outrage I have seen over everything that goes on down here. I have seen all the support that is being given out.

do you really expect them to completely rebuild in 11 days what it took them the previous 80 years to build...

its amazing how so many people don't have any friends that will take them in....

remember if your not part of the solution, your part of the problem

RANT OFF

Ok after Isabel hit last year the power company stated that the circuits serving the greatest number of customers would be fixed first. Two days after the storm power was restored to the business area 1 block from the apartment complex I reside in but I remained without power till day 5. Some areas of Newport News waited 2 weeks for power to be restored. But after week one the crews sent in from other areas...including Canada..were starting to be sent home.

We have become a nation of panzies....we can't live without our MTV, for gosh sake.

I think that everyone should be forced to go camping for a week every year, and see how good they have life. Hell, just being able to come home to a roof, four walls and a nice comfy bed should be enough to satisfy people.

Andrew taught me a great lesson: my stuff is just that....stuff...particularly when you are wondering where your next meal is coming from. There are so many more important things in life than just stuff. And in the big scheme of things, not having elec for a couple of weeks after a Cat 4 roars through town is no big deal. If anything, it should make you humble, and make you realize how good we have it in this country.

Heard a neat story my daughter told me last night...she heard it on radio and shared with me...little 9 year old girl, at her school helping out in the trashed library says..well, the books were all wet so I thought, let's put them in the sun and just keep turning the pages til they dry! (In contrast to the kids interviewed whining about no video games or TV), it was wonderful! I celebrate that 9 year old :)
