Here's a local story of former Cincinnati-area residents, who now own a home in Punta Gorda. They were in their home when Charley hit. And survived. I realize this probably isn't any relative members here are looking for but perhaps reading their names will help? Maybe they are neighbors of relatives/friends others are looking for.

I finally got in touch with my Port Charlotte friends last night. All are fine, only one lost a roof, out of around 20 people I know there I consider that a miracle indeed as homes all around each of them were totalled. Billy says phone service is totally erratic, he didn't even know his worked until I called, so hopefully your friends are only experiencing the same thing.

Hi Folks! Here's an update from the Port Charlotte area. Phone service returned for some yesterday. My mom's trailer park has water but still no electricity. She reported 20 trucks in a row on Harborview Rd replacing poles. The heat is murder but there is hope the power will be back on by the end of the week. Some grocery stores have reopened but only selling dry and canned goods.

The guy someone mentioned that was living on a sailboat that hadn't been heard from is fine, here is his latest log installment I found today, yet another interesting perspective of Charley

Yes, my friend found her brother and his friend doing well! She went over from Miami on Monday and found them just busy cleanning and helping neighbors. He should have contacted his family, that's for sure, but he's always been a bit of a drifter. Thanks for your concern. As a side, my friend took a small u-haul worth of supplies donated from our friends, neighbors and a local public school here in Miami for the residents. That went very well!

I was there
In port Charlotte and punta Gorda Monday afternoon.
It was heartbreaking, i have lots of pix, my niece picked up some of her stuff.
This is off the front pages, but the misery goes on....
