Uproar over lack of power continues boiling

#1 Postby Josephine96 » Tue Aug 24, 2004 12:59 pm

Buenaventura Lakes- Tempers are flaring in the BVL subdivision today. The reason.. a good chunk of residents have lights, and those that don't {myself included} are beginning to wonder why it's taking KUA so long to return lights to the rest of the subdivison.

Hurricane Charley knocked power out to every KUA customer on August 13th, but after 11 days.. most people have had enough. A KUA rep. was asked to speak to BVL residents at the BVL community center this afternoon but refused.

There is a city commission meeting at 6pm tonight where KUA will be present to answer questions. Early rumors today said some may not have lights back by 9/1.

Over 90 percent of KUA's customers have had their power restored but nearly 6,000 people remain dark.

Picketing is also planned at KUA headquarters in Kissimmee, if lights don't return soon or if not so great responses are heard at tonight's city commission meeting.

{this is a story I put together.. not any local media outlet}

I'd probably be ready to kill someone by now if my power was still out 11 days later. :grr:

By the way.. It doesn't make much difference.. but that number is now 4,800 lol

I am still 1 of those 4,800

Early reports call for picketing to happen at KUA and someone even said they were planning to somehow risk getting arrested and set up a road block until KUA comes and restores power...

Just curious what good picketing is going to do.....they have already restored 90% of the power outage.

I don't know what picketing would do either.. But they are being the slowest power company..

Just about if not every other Central Florida resident has lights back. Kissimmee is the only city here with so many problems getting them turned back on..

Was any of the power grid damaged? If so, maybe that's why some areas are slower than others

It happens everytime there is a disaster such as this. Give them time, i'm sure they will have your power on. Just remember, when your lights are back on, will you be worried about your neighbors that isn't??

Was there damage to a grid somewhere? I do not understand why you are without power this long!

All they say is that parts of Osceola County had "catastrophic damage" because of Charley.. but never mention anything about power grids.. I'm getting rather irate about this.. especially considering everyone else has their lights back..

If they say catastrophic damage then that means they lost a major grid. And unfortunately takes alot of time to fix.

That's the reason. The grids are most likely damaged. It takes awhile to get it back up in those situations.
