Nope, I do not have you confused with someone else. Where have I mentioned you being someone else?
My knowledge of weather is only from experiences. The forecasting I leave to the weather experts. If I dare challenge their educated knowledge, I better darn sure be able to back it up. I have not seen that from you yet alxbrajo. Only thing I am reading is your attacks on me.

Argh,

"Interesting" web site that carried the "article".
By the way, who here believes THIS part of the "article"? :
-------------------------------------------------------------------
In the Pentagon report it suggests that the United States build a 40-foot wall around the entire country to keep out people who are immigrating and trying to escape world weather problems. The Pentagon believes that food and water will be the biggest problem, and since the US has the money to buy food, they believe we will be best able to resist this particular problem longer than most countries. People will want to come here just to get food.
This sounds like something out of a weird movie, but in fact the US government has already begun the construction of this wall between the US and Mexico.
I just spoke with a US military person about two weeks ago who is involved in the construction of this 40-foot wall. In the discussion, with him about the Gulf Stream, which he was unaware of, he said, “Oh, now I understand. You see, the wall is straight up and down on the Mexican side, but it has steps and ladders on the US side to get over the wall and into Mexico. I never could understand why the government was doing this.”
If anyone can find find a link to this "Pentagon Report", I'd love to see it.

Yeah, a great source of hard scientific evidence based on facts.
For the record, I am still on the side of doing more research, BUT, at the same time continue to reduce CO2 emissions wherever and whenever practical. We cannot destroy our economy based on forecasts from climate computer models that cannot even correctly predict the past.
IMO, moving away from a fossil fuel-based economy is the way to go, but not all in the next ten to twenty years.
My opinions?
Are we causing global warming? No.
Are we contributing to global warming? I think so.
Should we ignore global warming? No.
Is a climate catastrophe imminent in the next few years? No way.
Does man control the earth's climate? No.
Does the earth control man's climate? Yep.
Is sun spot activity related to the earth's climate? Absolutely.
Basically, I think that we need to slow down our (U.S.) contribution of greenhouse gases. I also believe that the earth's climate is an incredibly diverse and complex ecosystem that constantly changes, BUT, also has an "ability" to adapt and overcome. In the grand scheme of the earth's climate, man is a bit player to the parts that have been around much longer, such as the oceans, volcanoes, and of course, the sun. Will man's actions eventually "eliminate" man? Yes, if the earth "wants" it that way.
In my opinion, the global warming debate is second only to abortion when it comes to inflaming passions and politicizing the issue.
Argue on.

Yah, good post Mike. In the main, I'd agree with your points. Meanwhile, Lindaloo's request has gone unanswered. Alxbrajo is defending the article, however like the article itself, he offers no evidence.
As destructive as they are, without hurricanes and other organised storm systems the Earth would most likely be uninhabitable for us.

Some charts regarding global indices (PDO, QBO, ENSO, etc.) and summer temperatures/precipitation:
Temperature Anomalies:
<img src="http://www5.wright-weather.com/bb/attachment.php?s=&postid=298519">
Precipitation Anomalies:
<img src="http://www5.wright-weather.com/bb/attachment.php?s=&postid=298521">
In short, there is little reason to believe that Summer 2004's weather suggests that a major disruptive climatic shift is rapidly unfolding.

even if were are "modifying" the weather, does it really matter? Its going to change anyway...i've read books on the ice samples they've taken from Greenland and what not...thats my proof that climate is and will always keep on changing! What computer model is the Pentagon using? GFS 5yr model run? thats got to be really accurate.... has the pentagon looked into other possible scenarios: volcanos, earthquakes, comets, michael jackson clones...tank out

The "Pentagon Report" is always presented as if all of the Joint Chiefs of Staff solemnly were sitting around in a command center writing the "report."
The truth is a small think tank in the Pentagon threw $100,000 at a couple of people OUTSIDE the Pentagon to write the report. They got the report, decided it was too silly, and basically threw it away.
The Pentagon contracts with a zillion people a year to write "reports" on every subject under the sun.
But the Kook Brigade has latched on to the idea of a "Pentagon Report" because it sounds so serious, and embellished the story.

Wow, I can't tell if this reminds me more of *talks* with my ex-husband or my children when they were teens - except I divorced him and the kids grew up...
I love spirited discussions I can learn from one way or another, when no one is trying to convince anyone of anything but stating opinions with, if not brilliant science, at least interesting reasoning. When it goes all junior high style, I have to believe someone beside me gets bored with it.
