If Charley...
Continued to move North instead of turning NE,and the conditions stayed favorable in the Gulf...Charley would have made landfall on the northern Gulf coast as a catagory 5.Scary thing is,at one time they were forecasting it to hit the northern Gulf coast.
If you ask me,that was a close one.

Definitely - note that the difference in heading was only a few degrees one way or the other.

The waters from the Tampa area north were cooler than those on the SW coast. Have a go at this site to see the temps... Don't get me wrong, Charley was off the chain no matter where it ended up hitting.

Wow - check out the fact that temps where Charley went (around Cuba / SW coast) are still warm. That must mean the temperatures were absolutely incredible before it went through.
And, the other area to note is the western Gulf. Talk about fuel...

Date is 08/13/04

The date is clearly stamped as 08/13/04. I agree, it makes you wonder if it is old data but the date is there.

Honest... I pulled that map up originally on the night of the 12th. I check that site constantly.

I'm not doubting you. But, it is clear the map has an 08/13/04 date stamp on it. Did you actually generate the map for the Navy?

Allow me to explain...the night of the 12th, it already carried the date of the 13th. My wife and I had a conversation over the fact it was dated the 13th on the 12th...

Oh, OK, that explains it: Greenwich Mean Time date.
Never gave that possibility any thought.
