Vipor tracking models?

#1 Postby tampastorm » Fri Aug 13, 2004 11:13 pm

Here in Tampa local newschannel 8, uses a new traking model called VIPOR. Which for 5 days out consistently had Charley going just north of Fort Myers. Obviously quite accurate, has any one heard of this?

Yes,
One of our local Mets uses this! It has been very accurate for us also.

VIPIR

VIPIR is just software designed to track rain and thunderstorms. It has the ability to display forecast models, but on itself does not produce a forecast model.

So where were they getting the signs from that it was going to hit farther south?? All the NHC models were aiming north.

It's used in the Midwest to show possible tornadoes. One station has it hooked up their predictive radar software.

Just another way to mislead...

Mislead? Didn't mislead this time, the other ones did.

No, you missed the point - VIPIR is used by the local TV mets to show how smart they are.

And, again, VIPIR by itself is not a predictive tool. It has to be hitched to a model if it is used in that way at all.

Ah Gotcha... sorry.

Steve Jerve and channel 8 Mets made it sound like a model and that it was correct with its prediction of the easterly jog

the viper product was much more accurate whether it was a model or not, so do we call this a guess?

Also on that note , yesterday the 11:00 AM advisory had tampa at 83 % and Fort Myers at 86% chance of being wtihin 65 miles of charley , but the models had into Tampa Bay. How and why can this be? Quite disturbing, My opinion anyway.
