Well the Gulf Stream runs up to 40N...as for SSTs being cooler than in the GOM; well Charley's been over land for a few hours now.

plenty warm
the water is plenty warm...about 82-84 all the way up to the just past the outer banks. BUt I think the speed and sheer will be too much for it strengthen much...maybe a low cat 2 at landfall around Myrtle Beach.
