Storm's surprise track

Hurricane Charley suddenly turned toward the Fort Myers-Port Charlotte area Friday afternoon. The storm was originally forecast to make landfall around 8 p.m. ET in Tampa Bay where preparations were focused.

Guess who said that?

CNN.

Fox news gets it right by talking to a meteorologist:

Media hype: Wasn't Tampa the original strike location? I could swear I read that here on S2K.
Media hype: Cat 2 when everyone knew it was a real Cat 3? Why didn't the "media" report that?
Media hype: You saw a man on the news who did not even know a hurricane was coming? How is that media hype? I lived in Florida a long time and I can tell you what that is. It is not Media hype.
Sorry to have "attacked" one of your S2K forecasters but really, free speech?
I just call them as I see them. No more on this subject from me.
Ciao

1. Nowhere in Pascagoula is there a state park.
2. It was not a CAT 2 it was a CAT 4, but the media was in Tampa.
3. If the network media had been where they were supposed to be the man would have known there was a hurricane a comin'
4. You should have read the rules of S2K when you joined.

YEP! FoxNews left Tampa and traveled to Ft. Myers while the other bloodhounds were wishing for a Tampa landfall then attacking the NHC and Governor Bush while the storm was making landfall.

Just my 2 cents for what it's worth.....I don't know all that much about hurricanes and such, living in the Southwest, why would I? NOW....let's see if I'm getting this right, some are complaining that NHC didn't nail the EXACT tract, correct me if I'm wrong but GEEESH.....it's Mother Nature we're dealing with here! I mean, REALLY....HOW many times has NOAA, NWS made MISTAKES?? Uh......hmmmm, tough question eh? Not trying to be sarcastic here folks, just calling 'em like I see's 'em from an *outsiders point of view* CRIPS, I live in the mountains, we get butt deep snow here in a *normal* winter, do we go off the deep end when the NWS misses a major DUMP? NO.....well, kinda "LOL!"

Bottom line, hundreds of thousands of lives were SAVED here, trust me, being in Search and Rescue, I felt they did ONE HEL*UVA job!

There, I feel better now "LOL!"

Yes, there is such a thing as free speech. However, there is also such a thing as respect.

Just reading through some of the post. I admit, i have not read them all. Let's start with this first. So what if the track was 55 miles off of the predicted area of impact. Everyone should have been prepared and everyone should have been ready for this storm to impact them. It seems as though we always want to blame someone other than ourselves. EX: The media, mets, etc. Let's stop blaming and let's start preparing for storms....this isn't the first to hit the United States and won't be the last. Just thought I would say that for what it's worth.....$0.01.

People only have themselves to blame if they didn't prepare for this storm. The TPC said this would be a major hurricane, and the landfall point was well within the warning area. I don't know how people can watch the forecast coverage on television, see this swirling monster and how much area it's swallowing, and then still deny that it's coming.
