Charlotte County info needed....
Does anyone have ANY information about injuries/fatalities in Charlotte Country, especially the PUnta Gorda area? I have relatives there and I'm in California.
Hope all of you on S2K are safe -- thank God, Citrus County was spared.

Details are sketchy. Check weather channel if you get it. So far I have unofficially heard about one serious injury close to Punta Gorda when somone was driving in the storm and the car was blown off the road. Some wind damage as well. I can tell you that Sarasota county, and Miami area are sending DMAT medical assistance teams into the area as soon as the winds died down. Broward county is sending a task force of law enforcement officers towards the Charlotte county, Desoto county and Hardee county area. Help is coming. This information was reported to the State. It should be reliable.

This Bradenton news story suggests severe property damage in downtown Punta Gorda. But still only two traffic fatalities reported...

We checked in with family down there. My cousin lives in Lehigh Acres. As of 10AM EST, they are fine. No damage to their house, but they have no powere or water. He was picking up limbs, palm fronds, etc. that littered their yard.
He used to have a home in Port Charlotte but had sold it not too long ago. He told me that home is now gone.

His name will definitely be retired and he has joined the register of legendary storms that are on everybody's lips -- Andrew, Camille, and the like.

Hope your relatives are okay. I'm the attorney for several mobile home parks in Charlotte and Lee County and am still trying to get specifics on the parks where fatalities occurred.
Just blind luck that Mother Nature decided to spare Sarasota and Tampa Bay...
