How's Orlando doing? Anybody heard?
My stepdad's brother works in Tampa, lives in Orlando. He said yesterday that they were going to close his office today (obviously now) but that he would be safe at home in Orlando. He USED to live in Tampa until he got remarried. Unfortunately, I still only have his work phone number and his email addy, but not his home number.

things are calming down. i am close to the Dr. Phillips area in the Windermere area west of there. Things were kind of crazy for a while. wind from 3 directions. i am guessing that we had some 60 or 70 mph sustained winds with gusts at about 80 or 90. Trees down. our power is still on. flickered several times. trouble getting through on phones. seems like we got the west side of the storm. your family should be okay. i think east of us got the worst of it. my prayers are with you and your family.

From my friend- who I am incredibly relieved to hear is okay given that she couldn't get plywood to board up by the time she relaized she might need to:

Thanks are given to whatever diety reached over and nudged that storm to the east. That small little unforseen movement turned what looked to be complete and total devistation in the Tampa area into nothing but light, playful breezes and drizzles.
And a lack of avocados. (edit for the kids). I'm getting avocados tonight if I have to use a (edit for the kids) grenade on the neighbor's tree.
And a note to those who might complain about having to evacuate and move and everything else....
Be grateful it was for nothing. As of 2 PM, it was still coming for us. If this had come in on Tampa at 145 miles an hour, the destruction would have been unthinkable. Be thankful.
And now I get to go to work to adjust all the claims. See you in a few weeks....
