Charley Phase II: Bastardi vs. NHC

#1 Postby Steve » Fri Aug 13, 2004 1:49 pm

Props out to Joe for an excellent explanation in his noon update on why Charlie is doing what he's doing (highly recommended reading on friction and storms coming up from on the western side of Florida).

I'm not trying to get ahead of the onslaught to Florida. But there's a major difference in Phase 2 of the forecasts. TPC is calling for 30k and Extratropical within 48 hours. Joe B likes the idea of a second landfall near or north of Charleston, SC as a Cat 1 or possibly a Cat 2. That's a major league difference and one worth nothing. Bastardi's discussion came out before classification as Cat III (much less Cat IV). TPC's is in their 11 advisory. If Joe is correct, people in the coastal Carolinas better get their preparations done now. It will be interesting to see which side Charley comes down on. Food for thought.

he wasnt the first.

nwhhc products for about 36-48 hours have been saying the same thing. I know I have been telling many in the se today to prepare for a cane. he wasnt the only one calling this and he definately should be inflating his ego for just making the easy forecast

You've done a good job. But then again, he goes back to at least Tuesday with the run-up scenario. He's not inflating ego, stating what he believes. He didn't question the TPC, I did just like you did twice today.

The REAL [tm] setting of the record straight.
