SE Florida? No warnings!
All, it really surprises me that there are not even Tropical Storm warnings for SE Florida (PB, Broward, Dade).
Charley seems to have turned slightly more northward (8 p.m. advisory says movement is NNW) and based on the following water vapor image, I am really concerned that the front is coming farther faster than expected and is going to push Charley NE sooner.
Am I crazy to be so concerned? I'm actually far away from my Boca home, so I'm not -removed- here. Just concerned for other family members and friends in the area who might be lulled into a false sense of complacency by the lack of ANY warnings in the area.
Thoughts please!

I'll go on record that Charlie will go N and then to NE sooner rather than later... I'm thinking Sanibel.... one of our favorite vacation spots, could be "ground zero". The fact that it is an island with a unique east-west orientation makes it great for shelling... and not good for hurricanes coming at an acute angle to the coast...

Here's a map with watches warnings. I know I saw a better one somewhere, but can't find it again. This looks like MOST of PB County & Broward and perhaps most of Miami-Dade have no warnings, but it's hard to tell exactly.

I thought about this earlier, but my inital feeling is that the NHC has a pretty good handle on this one and feel we are out of harms way. Although I do not look forward to the AM and PM commutes in rainy and squally weather!
But it seems like such a tiny problem compared to the problems our friends to the west face.....

Well, their confidence must be pretty high to give no warnings to Miami, Dade, and 98% of Palm Beach County.
The NHC will have alot of explaining to do if Charley comes in at Fort Myers or anywhere south of there IMHO.
Let's hope Charley does what he's supposed to and goes to the people who have had the most warning and most time to prepare. At this point, short of Charley just mysteriously dissapating, that would be the best case scenario.

as a north PBC-er
I'm one of the "no worries" Palm Beach County people. While Irene was an obvious screw-up (the storm moved well east of the model forecasts and the NHC track), I just don't see that happening this time. I haven't bothered stocking up on supplies (beyond what I already have from June), and truly believe we'll have nothing more than 30 mph winds and a lot of rain. Hopefully, I won't feel like an idiot tomorrow. Also, it's worth pointing out that everyone here is pretty confident we won't have big problems. My work is open and my daughter's day care is open since the PBC schools didn't close for Friday.

Here in PB County
Well, according to what I just saw on the NWS, we have a flood watch, and will soon have a tornado watch. Is that sufficient? I certainly hope so. I didn't buy all that much water...people were certainly buying supplies, not much, but some, like batteries, water. Talk today was, I'd say, wary optimism, but everyone I know is certainly watching the radar and satellite images....
