Weird Forcast For Remnants of Bonnie.

#1 Postby adelphi_sky » Thu Aug 12, 2004 4:47 pm

Was someone on crack when they wrote this? Is this type of pinpoint forecasting possible? lol

"Friday: Periods of rain before 8am, then periods of rain and possibly a thunderstorm between 8am and 9am, then periods of rain between 9am and 10am, then periods of rain and possibly a thunderstorm between 10am and 11am, then rain likely, mainly between 11am and 1pm. Chance of precipitation is 100%. High near 80. East wind 9 to 15 mph becoming northwest."

That doesn't look like a real NWS forecast. Where did you get it from?

I doubt this is on the officail forecasts on the local NOAA Weather Radio broadcast.

The Ruskin - Tampa Bay Area NWS office indicates less dramatic (of course) forecasts... using
"8 am," "2 am," "8 pm" and "2pm," on their website, rather than "midnight" and "noon."

Yeah. I agree. All I trust now is sats and radars. I think they use the rookies to type those forecasts. :-)

It's raining blackeyed peas and pinto beans here already. Under a flood watch. Bonnie isn't even here yet. Not to even mention her partner in crime.

I'm trying to figure out exactly what part of all this rain is the remnants of Bonnie. Right now I take it the rain that I'm getting is associated with the front. Am I right?

Depends on where you were at ... some serious problems scattered about South Carolina today ...

And Ken, you might have spoke too soon ... look what's to our SW ... and also developing offshore ...

Experimental Product

#18 Postby DocMonks » Thu Aug 12, 2004 6:36 pm

The forecast is not an 'official' NWS forecast, but rather an experimental product, using a text formatter that is populated with data from a gridded database.

The 'official' forecast for Prince Georges County, MD, read:
"Friday. Rain in the morning. Partly cloudy in the afternoon. Highs in the upper 70s. North winds 10 to 15 mph. Becoming west in the afternoon."

I saw all that. Overall though, Bonnie was not NEAR what was expected - not a hurricane as expected, a glancing blow where it made landfall, (55mph) and mosty just some showers so far today in EASTERN SC. I was certainly expecting more general rains in this area up to now. The areas getting the heavy thunderstorms well west of here got in on the action. I'll check the radar animation in a moment. What exactly can we expect as this complex moves NE into this area ??

Looks like some moderate/heavy activity to our SW now, heading NE. We'll see what happens. We sure could use more precip !

ok SF, check out the convection to our SW. If this area hits us and produces significant weather, then I'll say "I spoke too soon"
