Bad Miami Reporting

#1 Postby jlauderdal » Wed Aug 11, 2004 5:42 am

Heard these this morning:

Lonnie Quinn NBC6-Hurricane watches in effect for next 36 hours for keys. Isn't a watch issued if hurricane conditions could occur in next 36 hours?

Reporter on ABC10 at NHC-
"A hurricane watch warning has been issued for the Keys"
"There were two meterologists at NHC last night with more joining them today"..I wasnt there but i suspect there were more than two.
"Cuba will definetely slow down Charley"

There ya go folks and than we wonder why the public gets so damn confused. Any additions from your area?

From Channel 8 in Tampa

#4 Postby scogor » Wed Aug 11, 2004 5:46 am

Their morning weather guy has graphics showing a cat one coming ashore (according to him) in the Fort Myers area Friday late am or early afternoon. The official NHC track has Charley taking dead aim at the mouth of Tampa Bay. Makes no sense for Channel 8 to differ from the official NHC track!

The channel 10 report was a major hatchet job. Cant wait to get to the office in an hour and listen to all the half truths and misnomers. What a disaster this town is as far as hurricanes go.

My bad

Apologies to Channel 8. Put my glasses on and see that the official track does come in near Ft. Myers.

No apologies to 8, the landfall is alot closer to tampa than ft. myers which we all know makes a big difference.

I'm starting to get that gut feeling with the blow up of a large Cdo over Bonnie. In which should I say has a very well organized core with a reported eye! This could become a stronger storm very fast now because it is small. As for Charley is becoming stronger. I'm getting the gut feeling that Florida is in deep trouble
