Once the outer convection weakens could that cause more energy to be focused closer to the center?

Again, with such a large envelope of Charley, I didn't expect this thing to immediately take off, BUT once it slowly does, things will begin to snowball, and possibly quite rapidly when things come together ... that's a BIG concern ...
Um, just got back from a friend's house, and OMG ... what a burst of convection from Charley
