Another relativly quiet day in the North Atlantc Basin with only a few tropical waves traveling thru the tropical atlantic and the caribbean sea but none have the optimal conditions to develop into a tropical cyclone anytime soon.
The best looking tropical wave in the Basin now is the one some 700 miles east of the windward islands moving westward between 20-25 kts. This wave has a very weak low pressure down at around 9n but the thunderstorms are racing well ahead of the low and that is not good for the system to organize. What this wave will do in the next 24-48 hours is to bring some squally weather to portions of the Lesser Antilles but that will be about it at this time unless it slows down and begins to organize however I dont see it slowing down due to the easterly flow establised presently. All interests in the Lesser Antilles may want to watch this wave just in case it slows down and starts to get better organized.
Elsewhere:In the Gulf Of Mexico there is still a frontal boundary sitting in the northern Gulf and there is a very weak low south of Alabama but shear is not condusive for that low to organize.
The Remanants of TD#2 still are hanging around in the Northwestern caribbean sea but there is no organization in that system.
An upper trough well east of the US east coast is producing scattered showers and thunderstorms but there are no signs of anything organizing along the trough axis.
The weak low pressure midway between the Leewards and Bermuda has weakened.
Another tropical wave is located southsouthwest of the Cape Verde Islands but convection is limited at this time.
Tropical storm formation is not expected thru Monday.
Something to note is that by this date August 8 on average the North Atlantic Basin has seen two named systems formed but in this 2004 season only one system has formed and that was Alex. The average for the North Atlantic is 9.3 named storms.
