i was...and am inPascagoula...
My dad had just finished building on the beach...
lost everything.... the way it swung down the coast
really pulled up a high and fast moving surge...
keeping in mind that just 5 days prior we all had
a false alarm with this very same storm... we had
all just compleated the process of putting everthing
back that had to be put up... boats, lawn furniture... ect.
it was a disaster...

notice it was headed for us in the first place... then turned....
then came back...

Oops, meant to mention something else .....

I was 8 years old at the time (sort of following the tropics) when Hurricane Elena caused havoc for the Gulf of Mexico for Florida.

It wasn't even a month later when I experienced Hurricane Gloria in southeastern Massacusetts. I remember hearing trees falling
in the woods behind my house, our (my) next door neighbors had a large tree fall right onto their garage and someone (he was
about 8, too) who lived up the road was riding his bike through the gusty winds down the cul-de-sac I used to live on.

I flew into ELENA, when I was a hurricane hunter, she was certainly ornery at best, back at base, we didnt know when she was going to die.
