Pressure 29.78 here and falling........

#1 Postby dixiebreeze » Fri Aug 06, 2004 3:09 pm

all along the west Florida coast. It's 29.79 and falling at the Pasco County offshore buoy.

This is NOT an afternoon aberration. Something is cooking in the GOM.

Thank you jlauderdal. I don't mean to be an alarmist, but this is not a usual pressure drop.

I have 29.76" and falling here in Destin along the beach here in the Panhandle. This as we have been told that the front had already passed which should mean rising pressures. Unless this front has stalled to our north it can only leave one to believe that a broad low pressure area is forming nearby.

Even here in Miami the pressure is really low, my barometer is measuring 29.82" and it has been falling since last night. Something may be cooking in the GOM but the effects look to be spread all over the place.

Here it is... the very unusual August cold front moving through Florida; expected to
dissipate and even move slowly northward as a warm front as it does so, soon enough:

Here in South Fla it is 29.79. But I do have to believe that it is the coldfront coming on down. Not to say that it should not be watched though. It could perform a transition to something tropical!

Sure explains why I've had a "pressure" headache the past few days.

The DOW was down a Buck Forty Seven. Maybe that has something to do with the low barometer reading...:)

Yep. That might cause a headache, too, Trader. The GOM is a festering pond today.

Water Temp?

#13 Postby galvbay » Fri Aug 06, 2004 3:40 pm

Water temp off Galveston Island is pushing towards 90F! That's a LOT of energy cooking up.

Man ... IF something does get stirred up in the Gulf, it's likely to get real dangerous, real fast.

You're welcome, Dixiebreeze... Two of my favorite maps, I usually view them several times a day, especially with situations like this. :D

BTW, you may call me Tom. :)
