Aug 1 and storms brought to you by the letter A

#1 Postby senorpepr » Sun Aug 01, 2004 3:55 pm

First name down... Alex. Up next is Bonnie, Charley, and Danielle.

Below is a breakdown of what storms were active on Aug 1 between 1954
and 2003. (Note: storm numbers in parenthesis had been finalled out by
NHC prior to Aug 1) If applicable, there is a listing of what date the
"A" storm developed on. At the end the list is the 50 year average ('54-'03).

Please Note: Number represents the number of storms (excluding
subtropical storms) thus far in the season. The start dates of the
A-storm are when these systems were tropical depressions.

Active Storms on August 1, followed by the date the A-storm formed.

I have no clue why that slipped my mind, but you're correct. I've adjusted that message to reflect category five status.

Yeah, I completely agree. It is very interesting. You should do the E and F storms to see what became of those when you get a chance.

Did you know that Hurricane Cleo in 1964 is the only "C" storm to ever strike Florida?

Although, USAwx1, I should say that if we have an active season like last year, these posts because a bit data-sparse with the lack of lower-lettered storms.

Bump to update with a 1954-2003 data set.

Average number of storms by Aug 1 didn't change, but the average A-storm date moved 4 days earlier.

Note that I left the bottom YTD vs average as a 30-year data set to conform with climatological standards.

All other averages are 50-year.
