This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

hurricane by tomorrow?

Very possible. Now, this thing really needs to get inland as once this consolidates, well... lets just hope we dont have a Diana or a Bob out of this

No no, its still there.

However, what we should watch for is this getting into the warm sector where we have a lot of instability. Storms can explode in that portion

The front looks to be weakening but we will have to wait and see. The national hurricane center thought by now the front would have started moving it but that hasnt happened yet. So it just a wait and see game.

I remember watching Jim Leonards footage of Diana in 85. It stalled of NC and churned up the water causing it to weaken before landfall. I believe it was up to 130mph before the weakening.

Yeh thats true once these things sit in a area for a really long period of time at that turning up the water causes the water to cool then the storm starts to weaken.

I'm starting to wonder myself after being caught offguard about a hurricane--but...this thing could easily have at least 24 hours over water.

Guys, look at the trough and wv, not the position of the front.

but this is sitting over the gulf stream... it basiclly has an endless supply of 82+ water... it could churn up the water outside of the gulf stream... that might hinder any other storms that approach in the coming weeks should it continue to sit there...

Diana got sheared like a chea-pet and had a dry air intrusion.

There is no upwelling over the gulf stream. The current is too fast

What??? a Hurricane?? sorry guys I know that you are anxious but this system looks like the front/trof will steer this TS out to sea (pushing it NE) I may get close to the outer banks but land fall and a hurricane??? I am sorry I don't see it. The N. portion of that cold front is still active and the low still has support to keep it moving, also the High behind the front is building thus giving the E push that the front will need to help steer this system away.
If this goes hurricane I will be VERY Supprised!

Those of us on the Carolina coast had similiar experience in the early 90's with a nor'easter that surprised everyone. I'm hoping this thing is fish bait!

No chance at SNE.

As for cane being foolish... well, who would have thought 45KT right now was reasonable?
