HURRICANE DEVELOPMENT POSSIBLE

#1 Postby Guest » Tue Jul 27, 2004 3:17 pm

I was looking at the GFS model and noticed a disturbance that looked like it was tropical. It appears around day 10 I think, and is about 500 miles away from the NC coast on day 16. This may be a storm to remember, and right now, if it is tropical in nature, it looks like the target area would be from the outer banks to nova scotia! there is also very cold air about 500 miles north of the U.S border. This is very unusual for this time of year. just look at this link to see the model at 384 hrs. http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/nwprod ... _384.shtml

Remember, that is very far out. There isn't much there right now. Something may form, but it is 16 days away from now!

Interesting though. I hope we see Alex before then!

More or less just a sign of things to come. You can't take the GFS seriously from 15 days out (especially with its known eastern trof bias in late Summer *particularly when a super strong Bermuda Ridge is present*) but it's a warning salvo that things are going to get hot quick once they start rolling. Based on most of the predictions around the web, we've got to squeeze 7-10 hurricanes in over the next 2-3 months. They're coming...

I remember dreaming about all of the snow the goofus model predicted for us in Baton Rouge last winter.

I don't think we even got a sleet pellet.
