Is anyone planning on chasing this season? It'll be my first season chasing anything tropical so I was just wondering. Also, if you've got time, could you tell what kind of equipment you use? Well, here's my list...

I have a red 1991 Ford Explorer, that I'll be using this up-and-coming season. Although it might not be the most technologically advanced truck on the road, it's the best I could do with what I've got.

Neal,
Dont you normally chase tornados
I chased Isabel last year (I too normally chase tornados) - one piece of equipment that is a must is some eye goggles - the rain in the wind rally stings and it could blind you.
Some sort of hand held anomometer would be good too.
PS dont forget that the power will be knocked out and this means that all the gas stations wont work - make sure that you have plenty of gas in the tank at all times

Well if anyone does decide to chase a landfalling hurricane, don't forget to have the toll free number available to call into Hurricane Hollow's Eye on the Storm!
If you contact me we can exchange other means of communication (cell phone, email,ect) prior to you chasing the storm, and me going live on the internet/radio.

Well, last year, I intercepted Isabel, but it was as part of the DOW crew in order to scan the storm with multiple mobile Doppler radars. So, we were in big, heavy trucks that were stabilized with hydraulic levelers, so I guess that's what I would recommend .
But, seriously, Dr. Wurman was telling us that he wouldn't chance much more than a Cat 3 with those trucks, and frankly I don't blame him. So, given the fact that not everyone has a big, heavy radar truck to go chasing with, I would be extremely careful about chasing any hurricane. Where we were with Isabel, we were only in Cat 1 sustained at the peak, and even that was rocking the truck fairly decently. I'd like to experience some Cat 3 winds in one of those, maybe, if I have time, and if nature delivers, I'll get a chance to this year.

Nice tips guys, thanks. I usually just chase any .good cells that come here through NC. I've got some good pics of funnels, wall clouds, lightning... that sorta thing, but I just have to upload them to my site. Anywho, thanks again to all those who replied.
