Since the storm is likely to move over colder waters and become extratropical in 48 hours... shouldn't this storm be classifies as subtropical? What is the differecne between a tropical and subtropical disturbance?

If this were to become a depression, I think the farthest it would get in intensity would be a Tropical Storm with 45 mph winds before being absorbed by the cold front to its NE.

Also, it would be interesting to see Tropical Storm Watches, if any were issued, which they probably won't be, in NY and the New England area. I wonder when was the last time that happened?

I think for Hurricane Floyd in 1999. Floyd moved right over New England as a strong tropical storm.

Last time New England had hurricane watches I think was in 1996 when Edouard brushed Cape Cod.

I'm not surprised. Floyd was a huge storm. Floyd was a 2-day event for New England. Spiral bands were already lashing New England prior to Floyd's NC landfall.

Good point. That must've been a terrifying experience for you.

If I get to experience a hurricane (eye and everything), I'd want it to be a Category 1.

A Category 4 would be a bit much for me.
