Worldwide Tropical Update: 26 July

I had a few things come up late this evening that kept me away from making an evening update. Of course, after all that settled down, I had to head to work. Nonetheless, below is the statistical data (lat, long, winds, pressure, etc.) that you would normally find in the update. You can still utilize all the links on the webpage for the latest advisories, tracks, and satellite images. I should get an update loaded on the webpage tomorrow morning.

A) TY Namtheun (13W): at 26/0000Z...
Position near 24.7N 148.3E (425 mi E of Iwo Jima)
Movement toward the NW at 8 mph
Maximum sustained winds are 75 mph
Minimum central pressure is 976 mb / 28.82"
Dvorak estimates: 4.5/4.5

B) Invest (98L): at 26/0000Z...
Position near 36.8N 73.2W (170 mi E of Virginia Beach, Virginia)
Maximum sustained winds are 30 mph
Minimum central pressure is 1016 mb / 30.00"

C) Invest (93E): at 26/0000Z...
Position near 12.0N 110.1W (750 mi S of Baja California, Mexico)
Maximum sustained winds are 25 mph
Minimum central pressure is 1008 mb / 29.77"
Dvorak estimates: 1.0/1.0

D) Invest (94W): at 26/0000Z...
Position near 18.1N 118.0E (275 mi NW of Manila, Philippines)
Maximum sustained winds are 15 mph
Minimum central pressure is 1006 mb / 29.71"

TY Namtheun looks very impressive; I'd expect it to exceed current intensity forecasts with ease.

Here's a link to a station on the Bonin Islands which are in the path of the west pac. typhoon. Unfortanately, they aren't very consistant for hourly obs.

Invest 94W is now subject of a TCFA from the Joint Typhoon Warning Center.

Ah, as I would have thought, they take Typhoon Namtheun to 150mph, which seems about right. I doubt it'll make CAT5, but borderline at 155mph is possible.

Regardless, 150 mph is super typhoon status.

Actually I just looked at it again. CDO cloud tops have rapidly warmed, outflow isn't looking as nice, the storm isn't nearly as symmetrical as it was a few hours ago.. and overall it's just looking pretty ragged. Wouldn't expect anymore immediate strengthening from Namtheun.
