Interesting situation.....

I live in Woodbridge, Virginia, but I traveled down to Buda, Texas, which is 20 miles southwest of Austin, back on June 9th, to visit my relatives down here and to help them out on their 5-acre country property.

Well, they asked me to stay as long as I can and to keep on helping them, so here I am, down here in Central Texas through September 23.

I wonder what the chances are for a tropical cyclone making landfall in Texas and overspreading Austin with heavy rain?

Anybody think there could possibly be at least one tropical depression in Texas by late September?

Anything is possible! You may get more than what you ask for though. Try more like a Hurricane especially at the ehart of Hurricane Season!

It is very doubtful that a "Hurricane" could make it to Buda. Definitely could see something from a tropical cyclone by that time though. Of course, how much of what would depend on track and strength at landfall.

Buda is just a little sign in the road between Austin and San Marcos. Been through there several times.

The chances may be a little better than climatology would dictate if high pressure resumes its blocking pattern off the southeast coast of the US. Fewer storms recurve in that situation so Texas has a greater chance of being hit. Currently we have a wave off Jamaica with convection being fanned by an upper level low to its north. Two months of active season is a fairly long stretch with plenty of opportunity for tropical development. You know the old weather saying September remember, October its over. I forget what they say about July though.
