Generally, weather enthusiasts like to experience interesting weather without the death and destruction that goes along with it, sometimes.

I didn't read his post to mean that he hoped it would hit land myself. I took it to mean bahamaswx didn't care where it tracked, started, etc. :?:

Is the Lid coming off the same as being Inundated in the next few weeks?

I'm still waiting for that person to put a number on the meaning of "Inundated" :)

Inundated -- When one gets a whole bunch of rain in a short period of time, that doesn't nesacarily want it...

Lol, is this good enough Trader Ron?

Well, I wasn't talking about Rainfall. And you know it ! I'm not going to mention that person's name, however, that said person said we will be "Inundated" by tropical systems. It makes no sense and it's not factual. I can imagine if i said we won't have a Hurricane until September 15th. I would get flamed.
BTW. The same goes for having a "feel". lol.:)

NC seems to be the target lately.

Look:

1991 Hurricane Bob (offshore Category 3)
1993 Hurricane Emily (Category 3 landfall)
1994 Hurricane Gordon (offshore Category 1)
1995 Hurricane Felix (offshore Category 1)
1996 Hurricane Bertha (Category 2 landfall)
1996 Hurricane Fran (Category 3 landfall)
1998 Hurricane Bonnie (Category 2 landfall)
1999 Hurricane Dennis (offshore Category 2)
1999 Hurricane Floyd (Category 2 landfall)
1999 Hurricane Irene (offshore Category 2)
2003 Hurricane Isabel (Category 2 landfall)

Its because of that list above that it should be Fla's (peninsula) turn.NC has had their fair share of canes making landfall & near hits going back more than a decade.

Spread the wealth baby!!!

Ahem! Aren't you forgetting about New England?

We haven't had a hurricane since Hurricane Bob in 1991. The longer without a hurricane, the more complacent we become.

Here are the named hurricanes that have struck New England. (I'll include Long Island for the heck of it).

Hurricane Carol 1953 (Category 1 landfall in Maine)

Hurricane Carol 1954 (Category 2; ranked Category 3 due to steering current)

Hurricane Edna 1954 (Category 2; ranked Category 3 due to low pressure and steering current)

Hurricane Donna 1960 (Category 2; ranked Category 3 due to steering current)

Hurricane Esther 1961 (did not make landfall, however moved close enough to bring Category 1 conditions to Rhode Island coast)

Hurricane Gerda 1969 (Category 2 landfall in Maine)

Hurricane Belle 1976 (Category 1 landfall)

Hurricane Gloria 1985 (Category 2 landfall; ranked Category 3 on Long Island due to low pressure and steering current)

Hurricane Bob 1991 (Category 2)

The last hurricane to strike Florida was Irene in 1999.

Well H-LL, for that matter Houston needs a Hurricane. We haven't had a hurricane strike here since 1983. I was 4 years old when Alicia hit and now I'm 25!!!!

I can understand being concerned now that you are a home owner. Claudette almost made it here. If she would have stayed on that NW course for just a few more hours it's very possible Galveston would have had a direct hit. On that note, how do you think Houston would fare if it was struck by a strong category 2 or 3? I was passing through town and could just picture the devastation. There are just too many trees and a lot of the homes inside and around the 610 loop don't look like they can survive hurricane force winds.

Actually, Gloria weakened to a cat 1 just before landfall and made landfall with winds down to 75KT. For some reason, not much is made of this , though this is in NHC's best track report and most use the operational cat 3

Saturday Morning HPC Prelim

#33 Postby KatDaddy » Sat Jul 24, 2004 9:48 am

HPC highlights breaking down of ridge and W Trof

MDLS GENERALLY AGREE THAT SWRN CONUS/NRN MEXICO MID LVL RIDGE
SHOULD WEAKEN WHILE A TROF TAKES SHAPE ALONG THE WEST COAST. 00Z
GFS AND 00Z/18Z ENS MEANS SHOW A RIDGE ALONG 30-40N BUILDING INTO
THE AREA FROM THE E NEXT WEEKEND. SWRN CONUS AND ROCKIES SHOULD
SEE SCT DIURNAL CONVECTION... BUT BEST ACTIVITY SHOULD BE CONFINED
TO NWRN MEXICO. LONGER TERM TREND AFTER NEXT WEEK IS STRONG
REBUILD OF WRN RIDGING WHICH WOULD LIKELY ALLOW MOONSOONAL
MOISTURE TO SPREAD BACK NWD.
