See this article. At first, I thought it was a real good bedtime story for someone. But apparently, this is a TRUE story and the author is scheduled to be interviewed by Katie Couric sometime this coming week.

Thanks, My sister and her family will be flying home in 2.5 weeks from Holland..now I feel better. I have a lot of faith in the security and safety of air travel. But that was a chilling article.

Thanks for posting that link. What bothers me the most in the whole story is the fact that there is a law not allowing secondary interrogations of more than 1 Arab man per flight. It's supposed to avoid discrimination. To hell with that, security is more important.

Security is #1. I just flew from Newark into OIA last week on the 11th and found security to be very tight a BOTH airports.

Well, I'm REALLY looking forward to my trip to Denver at the end of August. I can only imagine how terrified those passengers were.

Thank God there were air marshalls on board, but that isn't always the case, is it?

Yea I agree Lindaloo. I had read the story a few days ago and almost posted it but somethings don't seem right about it. If it is true then we have some big problems. Right now I am more concerened about the nukes.

I fly out of Detroit Metro about 4 times a year......each time the personal search seems more intent......and it happens 2 or 3 times before boarding the plane. Often, there is a random check pulling out individuals just before they walk down that walkway. I cannot imagine such sloppy checking/searching as described in the article!

Just after 9/11, I had cuticle scissors removed from my carry-on; didn't even think about it when I packed! A few times I've been stopped because of metal in shoes......or hairpins.....jewelry.....or even the metal in my underwired bra!!

The Detroit area has a huge population of persons with mid-eastern descent; and they are bound to be on several flights. If those responsible for the horrific 9/11 tragedy were known to be red-headed people, then I would hope that my 4 brothers, my husband, and my daughter would ALL be stopped and carefully screened! It's just a fact that this has to be done now. How terribly sad though, that our instincts cringe each time we see someone that "looks" like a terrorist.

My sister was at Detroit Metro the morning of 9/11. She was returning to the Phoenix area after visiting me. Her flight was for 11:00a.m.; we heard the news of the Twin Towers at about 10:00. My husband was home sick and did not know until I called about what had happened. He called her on her cell.....she was first told that her flight would be an hour late......then 2 hours.....then that all flights were cancelled and everyone had to leave the airport. I left school and my husband and I silently drove to Detroit. The sky was strangely quiet......no flights at all near the always busy airport. A "closed" gate had been put up at our airport exit......but there were still individuals there waiting for transportation......and my sister was one of them. We saw an airport taxi ahead of us and hugged his bumper, following a different approach into the airport. The first terminal had about 50 people all sitting on suitcases, waiting with scared faces for their rides. As we rounded the corner to the Southwest terminal, I could see 30 more people waiting intently for someone to pick them up. Both of us broke into tears as I opened the door and scooped up her suitcase.....we wondered about those left on the sidewalk. She took a small pad of paper out of her purse and showed us a liscense number she had written down. Just after the airport closing, she noticed a turbaned individual come out and get picked up by another same-dressed person. They exchanged thumbs-up, then joyfully patted each others' backs........much too happy for this occasion. Of course she never heard anything back after reporting this.........p

Hmm... my parents are going to Chicago for their 25 th weeding anniversary next weekend. This is my dad's first time flying, and he is not too fond of heights, much less the fact that trouble can brew thousands of feet above ground.

I don't think I will pass this along to him...

As much as I feel we are still vulnerable when flying, I suspect future attempts may be with cargo planes or trains or some other type of transportation.

We fly to San Diego and back about 8 times a year..and fly elsewhere from time to time each year, but I have to admit I am still most troubled by some of the employees and staff I see working the planes and walking freely about the airports.

Maybe there is a very good screening process in place for them too, but it is not too reassuring watching a nasty-looking employee working out on the tarmack seemingly disinterested in his job and all the while working with some aspect of the plane from which I am about to leave.

Oh petal! That must've been a horrible experience for your sister! We were all terrified, but I can only imagine that thoughts that were going through her mind while at the airport.
