So what happens if he would have to resign in a next term? (supposing he runs and they get re-elected) Who gets the spot then?

http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0749825.html

Amendment XXV
(The proposed amendment was sent to the states July 6, 1965, by the Eighty-ninth Congress. It was ratified Feb. 10, 1967.)

Section 2

[Vacancy in office of vice president.]

Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.

My goodness, the RNC would give that power to Shrub? Cheney will have his reassurances I'm sure, if he goes...

And what happens if he resigns 'for health reasons' but pops up on the board of directors somewhere. Are his 'health reasons' still valid? Or will that just be water under the bridge (but we'll know we were fooled)?

With Cheney's Energy Panel still a secret government entity, I just don't see him keeping his fingers out of the pie.

Or he just needs to get while the getting is good--while the Panel still is a secret?

Actually the rumors are legit. He was going to drop out of the race for health reasons. Decided against it because it is now too late for him to do so.

Both sides have postive and negative aspects.

Negatives:

Cheney is INCREDIBLY popular with the Conservative base. Replacing him with someone more moderate may turn them off and keep them home on election day.

Positives:

A Moderate like John McCain or Colin Powell would help among Independent voters.

The whole point is moot because it will NOT happen UNLESS Cheney has some heart problems soon.

Changing him may just show that Bush does want to change and does believe he didn't make all the right decisions with Cheney. what does this mean? I also think that changing Cheney and getting a more moderate VP may cause him to lose his Conservative base. Although Bush is a borderline conservative/moderate republican.

Cheney isnt good...IMO is the worst VP ever. In my other opinion...i think Giuliani would make a REAL good VP.
