Suspicious package causes shutdown at Meraux post office

NEW ORLEANS -- Law enforcement and other officials responded Monday morning to an anthrax scare at a post office in Meraux.
Police said a clear plastic bag containing a white powder was left outside the post office. Attached was a note saying "This is anthrax," along with a threat against Americans, police said.
Officials said it probably is a hoax, but hazardous material crews, State Police, and St. Bernard Parish law enforcement officers are investigating.
Workers in protective suits entered the area at about 10:15 a.m. to conduct preliminary tests.
