Apologies Admins, I`m not spamming my board, just passing a message to my members

Many of our members may know that over the weekend we were in the process of moving our forum over to newer and more secure software.

The transfer went well at first, but sadly the backup file which I used before I shut down the old forum was corrupted, and a number of important tables in the sql file are missing. These tables are un-recoverable, and sadly this means so is the previous database.

I stayed up until 4am last night (with matchsticks on my eyes), and spent most of today trying to recover database, spending time on the phone with our hosts to accepting the fact the database cannot be retrieved.

I personally am gutted at losing all the work, posts and member details from when we began back in March of this year. I feel terrible, but more so I feel I have let the members down in some way.

First thoughts, I felt like throwing the towel in, but after spending the afternoon thinking, I`ve worked too damned hard and put too much effort into building this community to let this finish the forum.

I can only apologize to the members, an investigation is being carried out by my hosts as to why this sql file (with our database) on was corrupted so badly. We will be carrying out backups in a different and more secure way from now on. Rest assured, this will not happen again.

The main site has suffered with intermittent outages since yesterday, leading me to think the problems are more widespread than the hosts acknowledge.

To our members, I can hope that you will return to us, and help us build back this community that you had so proudly started, and once again make Maritimes Weather the best weather forum Canada has to offer.

Kind Regards,
Bob.

I'm so sorry Brit Bob about what had happened! I'm going to re-register myself.

Don't be too hard on yourself. There was nothing you could've done differently.

Sorry to hear of your problems...and challenges. Hope it comes back together stronger than ever.

Canada has some terrific sites from which to observe and share the weather!

Best wishes.

Well after the bad news of losing our database I decided the best way to make me feel better again was to give the site a clean out.

Spending the last few weeks re-writing the site has been hard work, but I believe worth it. So now the new look site is finally up and running all be it a few minor bugs.

Gone has the personal website feel, and in comes a more
detailed site packed with charts and forecast information.
The site is now more interactive with the forum, along with
the newly installed galleries.

The index/homepage now has upto date weather conditions from
all the major Canadian cities, these are taken fresh from the
NOAA metar reports.

We also have included the latest imagery from both
Environmental Canada and the NOAA. We also plan
to add new images soon based upon overlaying surface
charts and the latest satellite images.

Models can be access from Maritimes Weather, of course
these are directed at the Canadian weather.

We also plan to launch our newsletter service on July 1st,
people who are interested in receiving a copy will have to
sign up for this due to anti-spam measures.

We plan on making the site one of the premier weather
sites for Canadian weather. Somewhere for people to find a
forecast, somewhere for people to find weather information,
somewhere for people talk weather.

When it comes to the Canadian weather, this will be it.
