This is just a terror tactic that they think is so repulsive that Americans won't be able to stomach it and force a pull-out. Unfortunately they may be right. While I understand the "parking lot" sentiment, we can't, won't and shouldn't murder a million people over this kind of trash. What the Muslim wourld has to do is to stand up against this type of violence and denounce it for what it is. Murder. If Islamic law is enforced on those found to be aiding and supporting these crazy people then this will settle down.

Excellent post!!!! I agree completely. And I do think that non-radical Muslims are growing more and more angry about the actions of the jihadists.... the response to the kidnapping and beheading of Paul Johnson was unusually strong, with several Muslim clerics using a clause in Islamic law to "protect" Johnson and then condemning his murderers to hell once the deed was done.

Different war yes...but...then...I wonder why the United States couldn't have handled things better w/ Japan at the end of WWII w/out having to annihilate thousands in both Hiroshima and Nagasaki?

Another problem with this comparison is that Japan had a government with the legal and moral authority to surrender. Political fundamentalist Islam not only lacks a government, it doesn't even have a top-down authority structure. Osama bin Laden probably only has direct control over a tiny fraction of these extremists - they belong to small independent groups which often don't even communicate well with each other and occasionally compete for support and funding.
Using a nation as an example wont work for this very reason. Lets say we nuke Iran. Who can decide that enough is enough, and the terrorists should stop? Who has the power to make that call? No one does ... the attacks would just continue, and the families and friends of the millions of innocents killed in such an attack would just join forces with the extremists, putting us in greater danger.
So in order to use nukes to end Islamic terrorism, we would have to be prepared to nuke every nation that contains these cells ~ including many in Europe, and most likely our own as well.
Still sound like a good strategy?

To the Arab mind, beheading is the most despicable death that one can suffer (and, it also denies him/her a place in Paradise). Al Qaida's use of this is to play upon our own values (every life is special) and impose their own "values" (no one has any value...look at what happened in Al Qaida's dream world..Taliban Afghanistan...to see this in practice). :grrr:

They are suffering from the DELUSIONAL belief that the West will back out if they play "hardball". Maybe that worked with Clinton...perhaps with Kerry, too, and did with Spain...but thank God we have GW, who WON'T allow the US to be blackmailed. :larrow:

it shows how weak they are. they cant launch a major attack. they are reduced to using our media to win.

They don't KNOW how to fight any other way, I mean, HE**....they still throw STONES at each other, what does THAT tell ya? I saw a documentary a few months back on the Middle East...they showed a group of men (cowards).....stoning a GOAT to death and eating the meat RAW! They are TRUE barbarians from the get go, they haven't changed since the days of Cain and Able!

I am as against violence as the next person, but I want someone to tell me how we are going to stop this CONTINUING OUTRAGE without just going in there and KICKING THEIR ARSES!?!?!?!?????

Meanwhile I continue praying for all the victims and their families on both sides!!!

Agreed 100000% :( :grr:

The reason for the beheadings is a tradition from the past being renewed. While it is a sad outcome it did not surprise me one bit.

You are right, they have been doing this for years and to each other. But they have taken it a step further now by doing this to innocent Americans who are there to help them. BIG difference!

*smack!*

We're talking about Iraq here, not al-Qaeda. al-Qaeda attacked us on 9/11.

This was another cruel act of savagery that demonstrates anew the basic nature of the terrorist groups that seek to spread a new "Dark Ages" of oppression, hate, and ignorance into the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and beyond. I truly empathize with Kim Sun-il's family and friends and the South Korean people. My thoughts and prayers are with them in the wake of this terrible tragedy.

The barbaric nature of this latest crime against humanity again illustrates that there can be no compromise with such hate-driven groups as the one responsible for this most recent atrocity. The world needs to maintain its courage and resolve even in the face of this horrific crime and more like it that will almost certainly be perpetrated before the war on terrorism comes to an end.
