This is just a terror tactic that they think is so repulsive that Americans won't be able to stomach it and force a pull-out. Unfortunately they may be right. While I understand the "parking lot" sentiment, we can't, won't and shouldn't murder a million people over this kind of trash. What the Muslim wourld has to do is to stand up against this type of violence and denounce it for what it is. Murder. If Islamic law is enforced on those found to be aiding and supporting these crazy people then this will settle down.
Excellent post!!!! I agree completely. And I do think that non-radical Muslims are growing more and more angry about the actions of the jihadists.... the response to the kidnapping and beheading of Paul Johnson was unusually strong, with several Muslim clerics using a clause in Islamic law to "protect" Johnson and then condemning his murderers to hell once the deed was done.
Different war yes...but...then...I wonder why the United States couldn't have handled things better w/ Japan at the end of WWII w/out having to annihilate thousands in both Hiroshima and Nagasaki?
Another problem with this comparison is that Japan had a government with the legal and moral authority to surrender. Political fundamentalist Islam not only lacks a government, it doesn't even have a top-down authority structure. Osama bin Laden probably only has direct control over a tiny fraction of these extremists - they belong to small independent groups which often don't even communicate well with each other and occasionally compete for support and funding.
Using a nation as an example wont work for this very reason. Lets say we nuke Iran. Who can decide that enough is enough, and the terrorists should stop? Who has the power to make that call? No one does ... the attacks would just continue, and the families and friends of the millions of innocents killed in such an attack would just join forces with the extremists, putting us in greater danger.
So in order to use nukes to end Islamic terrorism, we would have to be prepared to nuke every nation that contains these cells ~ including many in Europe, and most likely our own as well.
Still sound like a good strategy?
