SAN FRANCISCO wants to allow illegals to vote

#1 Postby rainstorm » Mon Jun 21, 2004 5:00 pm

San Francisco, CA, Jun. 21 (UPI) -- A plan is being considered that allow non-citizens, including illegal immigrants, to vote in San Francisco school board elections.

The San Jose Mercury News said Monday the proposed November ballot measure was aimed at getting more parents involved in their children's education by waiving California's requirement that voters be U.S. citizens.

San Francisco has long been a home to a large Asian immigrant community as well as growing numbers of Latinos. Only those non-citizens with children in public school would be allowed to vote, and only in school board elections.

The Mercury said a similar proposal that would have allowed immigrants to vote in all municipal elections was rejected in 1996 by a judge who ruled the move would require an amendment to the state constitution.

If passed, the measure would be the first in California, although similar laws have been enacted in New York, Chicago and Maryland.

does being a citizen mean anything anymore?

It's my understanding that prisoners lose the right to vote, correct?

So why should illegals get to?

It seems like US CITIZENS are no big deal nowadays. I thought we as US Citizens are allowed to vote and not those illegal immigrants who seem to cross the border now more than ever. How sick is that :grr:

i think it would be cool if illegals dominated the school board and they made spanish the only language that could be spoken in school, and they had the pledge of allegiance to mexico.

Now that is just plain cheap. :grr: Let's see, the books must balance, so the reduced rate for the ILLEGALS must be born by others; probaby the LEGAL residents of Kansas, and perhaps LEGAL US citizens.

That happens, and I am officially running for president of U.S.! I can just see all the legal issues surround that. Oh, yeah, tax issues. :grr:
