Federal government to close Friday in honor of Reagan

#1 Postby southerngale » Sun Jun 06, 2004 10:28 pm

WASHINGTON (AP) - The federal government will be closed Friday in honor of former President Ronald Reagan, the White House announced Sunday.

Exempt from the closing are operations department and agency heads determine ``should remain open for reasons of national security or defense or other essential public business,'' according to a proclamation issued by President Bush.

Reagan's funeral service will take place Friday at the National Cathedral.

His body will be returned to California later that day for burial at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.

Live across the street from the Hinckley Hilton. I would expect lotsa security around here and lots of onlookers starting tomorrow.

Just out of curiosity.. does that also mean things such as the mail and banks won't be open?

I don't think they'll close. I'll try to find out.

Looks like the Capitol will be open all night Wednesday to the Public. Lines should be very long.

Will not be here on Fri, so will miss the motorcade from Capitol to Cathedral

May try to catch the Horse processional from the Ellipse to the Capitol on Wednesday.

The lastest I heard was they weren't sure if it meant banks and mail. They said they would let the public know as soon as they knew.
Either way, it means work for me regardless! :(

They are expecting at least 100,000 people at the Capitol to pay their respects.

Don't know about mail service ... I'll end up having to work either way, so I'll either be working with all my collegates or all myself on Friday. We'll know something probably by tomorrow or Wednesday.
