#1 Postby KatDaddy » Mon Jun 07, 2004 6:33 am

Wahoooo!! :) Hurricane Season 2004 is here along with my 7 year anniversary.

Flooding tropical rains this week for Houston-Galveston. 5-10" and higher storm totals. Here is the forecast discussion.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HOUSTON/GALVESTON TX
330 AM CDT MON JUN 7 2004

...LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL LIKELY THIS WEEK ACROSS SOUTHEAST TEXAS...

.DISCUSSION...
IT LOOKS LIKE IT'S GOING TO BE A BUSY WEATHER WEEK ACROSS PORTIONS
OF SOUTHEAST TEXAS WITH THE THREAT OF LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL. DEEP
TROPICAL MOISTURE IS BEGINNING TO STREAM OUT OF THE WESTERN
CARIBBEAN SEA...THE SOUTHERN GULF OF MEXICO AND THE EASTERN PACIFIC
TOWARD TEXAS. IT IS A BIT TOO EARLY TO TELL EXACTLY WHERE THE
HEAVIEST RAINS WILL FALL...BUT IT DOES APPEAR THAT SOME PORTIONS OF
SOUTHEAST TEXAS MAY EXPERIENCE SOME FLOODING WITH 5 TO 10 INCH
RAINFALL TOTALS...AND MAYBE EVEN MORE...NOT OUT OF THE QUESTION IN
THE NEXT 3 OR 4 DAYS. DEEP TROPICAL MOISTURE IN COMBINATION WITH
UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCES...A DEVELOPING DIVERGENT FLOW ALOFT...A
STRENGTHENING LOW LEVEL JET AND TRAINING OF CELLS POINT TOWARD A
HEAVY RAINFALL EVENT ON TUESDAY...BUT IT CANNOT BE RULED OUT THAT
SOME HEAVY RAINFALL MAY BE OBSERVED AS EARLY AS THIS AFTERNOON IN
OUR SOUTHWEST COUNTIES. WILL MENTION LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL POSSIBLE
THIS AFTERNOON DOWN THERE AND LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL LIKELY AREAWIDE
ON TUESDAY. IF THE GFS IS CORRECT...WE WILL BE UNDER A PROLONGED
PERIOD OF HIGH PRECIPITABLE WATER VALUES OF 1.90 TO 2.20 INCHES.
WILL CALL FOR INCREASING POPS THIS AFTERNOON AND RAISE THEM TO
LIKELY TOMORROW AREAWIDE. WILL KEEP HIGH POPS IN THE FORECAST
THROUGH THURSDAY AND TAPER THEM DOWNWARD AT THE END OF THE WEEK AND
NEXT WEEKEND.

THIS WEEK HAPPENS TO BE THE THREE YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF TROPICAL STORM
ALLISON. 42/46
&&

.HGX WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
SCEC ALL WATERS THIS MORNING.

Allison... means nothing to me.. She she came rolling in a few years back I lived in Sugarland... Practiclly got nothing... My mom woke me up to watch the news.. I couldnt even believe it was the same city I lived in!! I mean the ditches on the side of the road didnt even fill up!!! My hubby got caught in it on the way home from work... He works up by IAH... Said that the beltway was closed going away from IAH and you had to drive on the wrong side of the belt.. and there is an Alamo rental car place right off the beltway.. A 2 story building...Anyone know it? Well that was underwater, along with all of the rental cars...

Yep YankeeGirl I know which facility you speak of. It is incredible that some parts of the same city had less than 3" of rain while others had over 30"!!!! Where I live in Spring Branch we had 16" overall and 11" that fateful night. And yes SuziQ it does give me the heebie jeebies!!!! I was way more fortunate than thousands of others in this city and I don't want others or myself to have to experience what those unfortunate thousands did that fateful week 3 years ago!!!

Allison means alot to me too as just down the road 20" of rain fell from some of her feeder bands. I believe we got around 10-14" at my house. If we get 5-10 inches over here this week that will spell flooding problems since the Vermilion river is still over flood stage and has been since early may.

Yeah Allison still freaks me out. I give a store owner friend the ring when it looks like he might need to get products up off the floor... and just sent a note that he should look into clearing it. He lost a huge amount of stuff sored in the back on the floor in Allison... :( and a little precaution never hurt anyone.

I love rough weather... It just looks so pretty out right now!

I'll admit the name Allison doesn't exactly bring pleasantries to my mind.. That was 1 mean girl for a weak slow moving tropical storm

I got 28" here with that evil girl. Plus my daughter got trapped at the airport for almost 48 hours from Friday to Sunday when my husband was finally able to get to her. She ended up sleeping in her car.
And then my fish swimming out to the front yard. Ah.....the memories. Um, someone got some valium around here?

Good ol' Allison. My first experience with a tropical system. Nothin beats the eerie feeling of driving down the freeway watching cars float down the feeder road. Pretty impressive for a TS that barely even developed into that before making landfall.

Tropical Storm Allison came to show that there are still things in Tropical Meteorology that are impossible to predict. It was a tenacious tropical system that didn't want to die. Although I live in Miami and Allison didn't affect me I usually learn something interesting and nourishing about each tropical system, and Allison was not an exception.
