Full Metal Jacket is one. I liked drill seargant that motivated the soldiers got inside their heads. The scene when Private Pyle lost it and shot himself was powerful.

When I was younger, I liked "battle of the bulge," because of the tank action. But as I grew older, I realized that all the tanks were not authentic. I think that they were all Korean war-vintage (M-60's?) painted in different colors, with superficial modifications (smaller guns on the american tanks, bigger guns on the german tanks). I don't remember seeing any shermans or panthers in that movie. They may have had a tiger, though, for a cameo appearance, but in the large scale battle scenes, they were all faked.

Bridge over the river kwai
Apocolypse Now (in a different kind of way)
The great escape
Sink the Bismark
MASH (the movie)
