I was also hypo and was on synthroid for years due to a follicular adenoma on the left lobe of my thyroid. It was rather large (IMO), i.e. large enough to feel it from the outside. FINALLY found a doc to remove it and surprisingly the other lobe has produced enough to where I don't have to take it anymore. One warning regarding surgery if that's an option for you-swallowing is almost impossible and EXTREMELY painful for the first 24 hours following surgery. They had me on morphine and I needed it. They also were very reluctant to give me any fluids right after surgery but my mom raised hell and got me ice chips and water. If surgery IS an option, be prepared to feel like your head is too heavy for your neck. I DID look like Frankenstein for about a week due to the one LONG stitch they did in BLACK (like they couldn't have picked a different color?)from one side of my neck to the other. My scar is virtually invisible and have had NO problems since. All in all, if you need to get it removed, DO SO.
