This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Terminology Question

#1 Postby F-Bo » Sat May 29, 2004 11:34 pm

Hate to start a new thread over this, but I'm in the midst of a brain fart. What's the technical term for when there are two tropical systems in different hemispheres that basically mirror each other?

The most recent example that I recall coincided with the MJO wave over the IO about a month ago (and over the WPAC), when we had 23S (Juba) in the south IO and 01A in the Arabian Sea.

Help!, and pre-thanks,

F

Most scientific papers on the subject call them "Twin cyclones" or "Twin tropical cyclones" or "cross-equatorial twin cyclones."

http://www.agu.org/pubs/crossref/2002/2 ... 0066.shtml

Is one paper. Search on the terms above and you'll find a lot of papers on-line.
