I have a question that maybe one of you will answer:
Why every blob of convection in the Western Pacific and Indian Ocean becomes an invest in NRL?

NRL (Naval Research Laboratory) and the Navy Fleet Center track systems across the globe for both research and practical issues. They need to be ready to make contingency plans in the event of a threat. Also, there are usually ships all over all the oceans at any given time, so they need to provide advice and guidance.

From the NRL site:

Mission Statement

The NRL is the corporate research laboratory for the Navy and Marine Corps. NRL's Marine Meteorology Division conducts a research and development program designed to improve the basic understanding of atmospheric processes and the atmosphere's interaction with the ocean, land and cryosphere; to develop and implement automated analysis, prediction, and weather interpretation systems for DOD users, and to study the effect of the atmosphere on Naval weapons systems.

You can get tons of information on their projects, products, facilities, seminars, jobs, etc. at their home site:

If you're not familiar with the Naval Fleet Center site, they have tons of cool stuff available there too. Anyone who complains about tax dollars (and that's all of us) should be glad that there are actually a few instances where someone's pocket's not getting too lined :)
