I once again have a silly question

#1 Postby Josephine96 » Wed May 26, 2004 10:19 pm

I am doing research because I hope to take my retreat to St. Petersburg in the next couple weeks..

Anyway.. here's the question.. I'm trying to decide a hotel where I'd like to consider spending a night..

Under some of the "hotel information" or whatever it's called it says "credit card required".. Does that mean I can only go there if I have a credit card..?

Not all of these say that.. just a few of them.. Or does it just mean I can't make a reservation without a credit card..?

Forgive me if I sound confused lol.. I am..

Most likely you can't make a reservation without a credit card. Most hotels require them in case you damage the room or skip out before check out.

Oh Ok.. I am actually planning on just going straight to St. Pete and taking a chance on finding a hotel and paying with cash..

I have found a couple with my research that do not say "credit card required"..

I don't have a credit card to begin with lol..

I've worked as a desk clerk at a few hotels and all of them either required a credit card or some sort of cash deposit, usually ranging from $100-$250. Call and ask so you're not stuck searching for a hotel all night.

John, weren't you saying something earlier about opening a checking account? Sometimes, you can get an ATM/Debit/Check card with the Visa logo that can be used as a "credit card" as long as you have the funds in the bank. It has the 16-digit number which allows you to make reservations and such, but it's not as much of a hassle as a true credit card because there's no interest or anything (since it's really just your checking account).

Exactly what I have, and I love it! I do not have to carry $100 around with me; all I do is swipe, knowing that the merchant is invisibly taking money from my checking account, so no interest or bills to worry about.
