Travel during terror threats....

Do you think the airlines and travel agencies should refund previously bought flights/travel packages due to fear of the latest terror threats? What are your thoughts?

It the flight or event is cancelled by the operator, there should be a refund or raincheck. Same as if something is cancelled/delayed due to weather.

If the passenger wants to reschedule, there should be an accommodation in accordance with whatever policy applies. (i.e. some limitations)

If the passenger just doesn't show up, no refund.

No...

The airlines are desperate for cash as it is. They can't afford to lose money for any reason right now.

Only if the flight is cancelled due to threats. Just because someone doesn't want to fly isn't a reason.

I think flying is perfectly safe. There will not be something like 9/11 again, not with everyone on guard. Flying is much safer than driving, taking a train, bus etc.

I would never put myself in that position which is why I do not fly commercial.

I travel by car or I board a friends Leer jet. I am going to Virginia Beach in about 3 weeks but am flying on a Navy plane. :)

Actually, terrorism aside, it would probably be safer to fly commercial than on the learjet. Still, no matter which way you fly, you are more likely to be killed driving to the airport than you are on your flight.

BTW- You are very lucky to have a friend with a Lear. :)

Travel insurance usually covers that. I know mine does for my flight at the end of August.

Airlines need to relax their rescheduling fees, etc., but I do not believe they should refund a ticket that was purchased as non-refundable.

Our family is flying to and from San Diego to our home this weekend, and we are flying to Illinois in June. Our plans are not changing. But our flight itinery has. Southwest allows you to do that, and so I think other airlines should do so also.

How do you think it is safer commercial? Do you actually think there is a terrorist aboard a 15 seater plane when there is maybe 4 people on board and three of them are my family? lol.

I am much safer on the Navy plane too.

The smaller Lear is almost certainly safer in regards to terrorism, but generally the crew flying commercial airliners has more experience than those flying corporate jets. Still, like I said before, the odds of something happening are so extreme that it isn't worth worrying about.

Without a doubt you are probably safest on the Navy plane. Enjoy your trip!
