we hear this all the time. we need to just get on with our lives. i still say they have no intention of attacking here. even if i thought they were, i have to move on with life. personally, i think these alerts should be for law enforcement only.

If it's a serious threat the public needs to know. We could possibly see or hear something that could help divert an attack on the USA. Yes, we need to live normal lives but we also need to be aware and alert at all times now. Times have changed, we will never be the same again.

I know this is going to irritate someone, but don't take it personally. I like all of you too much.

Obviously all that stuff isn't going to fit in a backpack, or even a Humvee. So the idea is to hunker down in your bunker, fight off and kill, if necessary, your neighbors who were unprepared, and wait for things to get better. You've got X number of months of provisions. By then you're up to your armpits in trash and your own waste, and your supply of one or more critical item will be exhausted. Then what? Were cyanide pills on that list?

It would be reasonable to have supplies for some things like weather events, but if there's some event that makes it unsafe to go out for a long time, what's the point?

I could spend my whole life preparing for an event that may or may not happen. If it happens, I may buy some time, but even if I win, I lose. If another event happens that I didn't or couldn't prepare for, I lose. If nothing at all happens, I still lose, because of everything that was sacrificed for the preparations.

How would one be a "winner?" Some event happens that causes disruption, but allows everything to return to normal after a time. It's hard to think of an event that would fit this criteria. Nuclear or biological attacks would leave residue that would last for a long time. Attacks with conventional arms would have a short duration. Disruption of power and water supplies? Possibly, but those wouldn't force us to hunker down in our homes. We'd be outside building campfires. (I skimmed thru the list. Was firewood on it?)

One has to assess the level of risk that one is willing to accept, the amount of sacrifice that one is willing to make now, the odds of a catastrophe at one's location and in what timeframe It's always good to have tools, resources, and some supplies, but there's no guarantees of anything. In my assesssment, there's more chance of getting killed on the freeway. I am not going to get nuts over preparations.
