Okay I swear he said several embassies, maybe he just said consulates. and, I figured we had several in all countries. but Bush seemed to hint at these being strategic control centers, possibly military bases, is this how embassies typically are. I gather they are usually pretty much diplomatic in nature.

Yes, they are...FI, St. Louis has Consulates for Great Britain, France, Israel, Switzerland, Norway, Denmark, Ireland, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Japan...and those are only the ones I KNOW of.

Consulates serve as an information center and a diplomatic recourse (in case a foreign national gets in some sort of trouble, he/she has a Consul whith whom to advise) in many cities in the US...other countries in which we have relations are no different. But, in each country, there is but one Embassy per foreign nation represented....but as many Consulates as needed.
