Good to know. I can't help but keep looking up stuff though.

I did a Yahoo search for that IP and I got a bulletin board in Japanese with lots of posts from 202.157.0.52 (even just yesterday).

I tried to use http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/tr to translate (that's how I figured out it was Japanese, not Chinese). I can get the basic idea of what's being said, but it's sort of jumbled. Just a bunch of stuff pertaining to "Kill Bill 2," "Beetlejuice," "Passion Of The Christ" and japanimation. I didn't read it all. I'm not even sure if it's significant. Heck, it could be from a library computer which would make it harder to nail a specific person.

http://transform.to/~starling/spam/info.html has the IP listed as a spammer also.

This one http://www3.big.or.jp/~icu/cgi-bin/many ... 04/226-325 shows it as "202.157.0.52(cache1e.kcn-tv.ne.jp)" which further verfies a Japanese connection, though that's not certain.

Bugs me that someone is hacking into our server and admin email accounts and sending crap. I hope you guys are able to catch them! Send 'em to Abu Ghraib!

My McAfee didn't find a virus when I did a complete scan, but it may have blocked it before hand.........DANG!!!!! At this point, and I know it sounds silly, I'm afraid to shut the computer off for fear it won't come back. I know, totally paranoid.

Whoever did this should be hung from the rafters. Sorry, I know that's extreme but I am SO careful about what I open, it just aggravates the fire out of me.

My Norton Anti-Virus System said it was a Moderate Risk as well.. this is getting ridiculous... I hope we find out who is doing all this VERY SOON!!!

THANKS for the warning...I deleted it and reported as spam as soon as I read this warning...Godspeed in finding the culprit...these attacks on Storm2k are so unfair...it appears we have our own little terrorist and I hope when its all said and done that they are caught and treated as a terrorist. Somebody really needs to get a life!

Not only did I open it but I ran it. Personally I never get spam mail, or malevolent mail through my comcast server, but I guess its only a matter of time. I have no idea if it did anything, but I don't have updated antivirus. I just deleted all temporary files and used the disc cleanup process and restored my system to yesterday, obviously any person who created a virus can get by those functions in a second, so I am a bit unnerving right now.

It seems the program deleted my cookies initially as I had to logon to the message boards, now when I decided to manually clear all history, when I restart it shows todays history once again, I don't know if this is supposed to happen or not.

At this point, we have no evidence of there being a virus. NIS 2004 killed it saying it was medium risk but a few people have mentioned opening it and then running a virus scan, with nothing found. Hopefully it was just some sort of warped power trip thing on the hacker's part and there's nothing harmful there. We have our suspicions on who is responsible and have obtained some information on that person. Unfortunately, it's not going as quickly as we would all like. I apologize for this loser and I know it's frustrating, but we will get to the bottom of this and they will be dealt with and exposed.

Glad to help. I tend to forget to delete my trash folder because Yahoo does it automatically after 7 days or something and whatever is in there doesn't count against my total email storage.

Storm2k has some serious security issues it seems. How is it possible that someone obtained the password for the email account?.

That's pretty much what hackers do. They don't need passwords. Like a burglar or a predator, they just break in without a key.

When I opened the email to forward it to Marshall, I saw how it looked like the standard S2K announcement email, all the way down to the signature -- "Regards, Storm2k.org." Whoever it was must have accessed an admin part of the board (hmmm...where have I heard of that being attempted before?) and sent that announcement (aka, spam crap) to all the members. I know on the Yahoo board I co-moderate, there is an option for mods to send emails to everyone with a quick couple of clicks of a mouse.

I can't wait until they catch the nut. You know, some people with that talent could put it to better use by hacking into terrorist websites or something (with FBI permission, of course).

Well I updated virus protection and nothing was found. I had problems with one folder on my desktop, not sure why, but I don't think it is related to the email program. I moved all of my favorites from its folder to a temporary folder, and when I tried to select all, to move them back, explorer froze up, this was the only folder I had this happen, and since I have removed that folder. So if you have run the program, you may get some slowdowns or explorer crashes, if they are related.

I don't think there was a virus involved (could be wrong, though). I think it was a way for them to know that they got in (by sending a somewhat mild, non-threatening generic spam-type email). Everyone is talking about it, so obviously if they read our posts, they'll know it worked for the immature putzes.
