I found the pic of Joan on the Internet around September 2002. I had done a google search. I printed out the picture and added it to my collection.

A month later, the pic and site were gone. I guess I was lucky to have printed out the pic.

Well, it was a small pic, so I recently scanned it and enlarged it on my computer. Unfortunately, since it can only be found on my computer, I can't upload it here. (I think the forum rules are that the pic has to be located somewhere on the web.)

Otherwise, I'd load it here. I also have a satellite (yes, I said satellite) pic of Hurricane Donna from 1960. I found it in a book on Florida hurricanes. Considering it's from 1960, the quality is rather good. Like Joan, I'd share this pic with you if I could. But I can't.

Unless somebody has an idea of how I would be able to.

Some impressive stuff here everyone! Great shots.

I would post the pics but as we all know my comp is down at the moment. Once I get a new one and reload the backup data I will see what I can do. :)

More pics!

The last major hurricane to make landfall on New Orleans: Hurricane Betsy from 1965

http://www.photolib.noaa.gov/space/images/spac0007.jpg

The earliest hurricane to hit the U.S. (June 9th, 1966) Hurricane Alma of 1966

http://www.photolib.noaa.gov/space/images/spac0167.jpg

We gotta have faith. So here's Hurricane Faith from 1966!

http://www.earth.nasa.gov/history/essa/essa2.jpg

Here is Hurricane Inez from 1966. Inez was also known as "the crazy one" because of her erratic path.

http://history.nasa.gov/SP-168/p17a.jpg

This pic is a real treat! It has 8 tropical systems! Hurricanes Beulah, Chloe, and Doria in the Atlantic; Tropical Storms Monica and Nanette in the eastern Pacific; Typhoons Opal, Ruth, and Sarah in the western Pacific. (No, they don't all have eyes. Those are black dots just indicating where each storm is.)

Here's a pic of 1967's Hurricane Beulah as a Category 5 off the coast of Texas.

http://www.srh.noaa.gov/lch/research/images/beulah.jpg

Here's a "textbook" storm. You see it in books often. It's 1968's Hurricane Gladys.

http://www.msfc.nasa.gov/newsroom/camex/photos/10074900_m.jpg

This one has been shown already, but a collection just ain't a collection without Hurricane Camille from 1969! Here's Category 5 Camille making landfall.

http://www1.ncdc.noaa.gov/pub/data/images/hurr-camille-vis2.gif

Here's Camille as a tropical storm along with the famously seeded Hurricane Debbie in 1969. Debbie appears to have reintensified after the bouts of seeding.

This really is a great collection. Can anyone find any sat pics from Hurricane Juan of 1985? I believe that one made 3 landfalls in Louisiana but I can't ever remember seeing satellite pictures of it.

Here's the 1980s!

Here's a beautiful pic of Hurricane Allen from 1980. Allen was a Category 5 at the time. Note how freakin' HUGE Allen is!

http://www.tropmet.com/images/gallery%20images/hurricane%20allen/allen_000.jpeg

Here's Hurricane Alicia from 1983. Alicia was the first hurricane to make landfall on the U.S. in 3 years.

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/HAW2/english/history/alicia_big.jpg

Here's Hurricane Diana at peak intensity as a borderline Category 3/4 in 1984.

http://www.photolib.noaa.gov/space/images/spac0288.jpg

Here's Hurricane Josephine as seen from the space shuttle in 1984.

http://eol.jsc.nasa.gov/sseop/images/ISD/lowres/STS41G/STS41G-34-40.JPG

Here's Hurricane Klaus from 1984.

http://eol.jsc.nasa.gov/sseop/images/ISD/lowres/STS51A/STS51A-31-72.JPG

Here's another "textbook" hurricane. Hurricane Elena, driving people nuts in 1985.

http://www.tropmet.com/images/gallery%20images/hurricane%20elena/elena_000.jpeg

Here's a pic of Hurricane Gloria at peak intensity as a Category 4 in 1985.

http://www.tropmet.com/images/gallery%20images/hurricane%20gloria/gloria_001.jpeg

Here's a pic of Hurricane Juan as seen from the space shuttle in 1985.

http://eol.jsc.nasa.gov/sseop/images/ISD/lowres/STS61A/STS61A-33-39.JPG

Here's Hurricane Kate at peak intensity as a Category 3 in 1985.

http://www.tropmet.com/images/gallery%20images/hurricane%20kate/kate_000.jpeg

Here's a pic of Hurricane Bonnie in 1986.

http://www.tropmet.com/images/gallery%20images/hurricane%20bonnie/bonnie_000.jpeg

Here's the "granpappy" of all hurricanes. Hurricane Gilbert from 1988.

http://www.tropmet.com/images/gallery%20images/hurricane%20gilbert/gilbert_000.jpeg

Well, I couldn't decide between these two pics of Hugo, so I'll post both.

Here is Hurricane Hugo making his "textbook" landfall on South Carolina as a Category 4 in 1989.

http://www1.ncdc.noaa.gov/pub/data/images/hurr-hugo-19890921-POSTER.jpg

Here's a pic of Hurricane Hugo at peak intensity as a Category 5 in the Atlantic in 1989.

http://weather.unisys.com/hurricane/atlantic/1989H/Hugo/hugo-5.gif

Have I reached the point of "overkill" yet?

OK, here are the 1990s. My collection gets bigger, so I'll do it in segments.

Here's Hurricane Bob from 1991. Bob was the last hurricane to strike New England. Will 2004 prove otherwise?

http://www.tropmet.com/images/gallery%20images/hurricane%20bob/bob_000.jpeg

Here's Hurricane Grace from 1991. Grace later contributed to the Perfect Storm.

http://www1.ncdc.noaa.gov/pub/data/images/extratrop-atlantic-19911028-g7vis.jpg

Here's Hurricane Andrew making landfall as a Category 5 in 1992.

http://fcit.usf.edu/florida/maps/aerial/aerial01/photos/62000.jpg

Here's Hurricane Bonnie from 1992. (Yes, there were other storms that year)

http://www.playasperu.com/ecologia/tierra/images/hurricane_bonnie_jpg.jpg

Here's Hurricane Emily from 1993.

http://zebu.uoregon.edu/~soper/Earth/emily.gif

Here's Hurricane Gordon from 1994. Honestly, they should have retired Gordon.

Nice collection, Hurricane Bill. You are right about Gordon. He single handedly caused like 1000 deaths. There are a few storms that should've been retired. All of those storms were so organized. Andrew was a doughnut!

From 1991-1995, there was an unusually long-lasting El Nino. After a record-breaking number of named storms in 1990, the Atlantic had 4 consecutive seasons below average. When the El Nino ended in 1995, the Atlantic roared back with a vengeance(sp?). The 1995 hurricane season was probably the most memorable hurricane season in recent memory.

We were only a few days into the season when we already had our first hurricane! In her only appearance as a hurricane, Hurricane Allison from 1995!

http://www.ems.psu.edu/~nese/allison.gif

Erin was the first hurricane to strike Florida after Andrew. Hurricane Erin showed how quickly a hurricane threat could develop by flaring up off the Florida coast in 1995.

http://www.comet.ucar.edu/resources/cases/c3_03aug95/gif/hurricane-erin-nasa.gif

Here's 1995's Hurricane Felix as a Category 4!

http://weather.unisys.com/hurricane/atlantic/1995H/FELIX/FELIX-1218.gif

Here's 1995's Hurricane Luis in the Atlantic after striking the Caribbean. Luis also eventually made landfall in New Foundland as a Category 3, the first hurricane to do so in Canada in over a century.

http://www.msfc.nasa.gov/newsroom/camex/photos/luis_m.jpg

Here's 1995's Hurricane Marilyn, which struck areas already ravaged by Luis.

http://dmsp.ngdc.noaa.gov/html/hurricanes/1995/mari_vis.gif

Here's 1995's Hurricane Noel.

http://www1.ncdc.noaa.gov/pub/data/images/hurricane_noel_1995_avhrr_vis.gif

Here's the strongest storm of 1995. It's also the last major hurricane to strike Florida. It's Hurricane Opal as a Category 4.

http://dmsp.ngdc.noaa.gov/html/hurricanes/1995/opal_vis.gif

The farthest name down the Atlantic list to be retired. It's 1995's Hurricane Roxanne.

http://www1.ncdc.noaa.gov/pub/data/images/hurricane_roxanne_1995_goes_vis.gif

The farthest name down the Atlantic alphabet to be used. It also was the storm that ended the 1995 Atlantic hurricane season. It's Hurricane Tanya.

As hurricane season approaches, I'll continue with my collection.

Time for 1996!

Here's the unusually early Cape Verde storm, Hurricane Bertha.

http://www1.ncdc.noaa.gov/pub/data/images/hurricane-bertha-reduced.gif

Here's Hurricane Cesar. Cesar was only the 3rd Category 1 hurricane to be retired. The other two are Hurricane Agnes (1972) and Hurricane Klaus (1990).

http://dmsp.ngdc.noaa.gov/html/hurricanes/1996/cesa_tir.gif

Here's Hurricane Edouard as a Category 4. To the right of Edouard is what will soon be Fran, struggling to ger her act together.

http://vortex.plymouth.edu/hur_dir/1992-1997/edouard96_sat.gif

Here's Hurricane Fran at peak intensity.

http://www.stormsurf.com/page2/tutorials/hurricane-fran-vis3-sep04a.gif

Here's the Category 4 Hurricane Hortense.

http://dmsp.ngdc.noaa.gov/html/hurricanes/1996/hort_tir.gif

Here's Hurricane Lili from 1996.

http://rsd.gsfc.nasa.gov/pub/goes/961017.lili.jpeg

Here's Hurricane Marco.

http://www1.ncdc.noaa.gov/pub/data/images/hurricane-marco-vis-nov20.gif

1997 had a strong El Nino and it took its toll on the Atlantic. Of the 7 named storms, only 3 became hurricanes. Danny was the only storm to make landfall anywhere.

Despite what the title of this pic says, Bill had briefly achieved hurricane status at this point. Here's Hurricane Bill from 1997.

http://www.atmos.umd.edu/~stevenb/hurr/97/bill/bill124.n14.jul12_1814.gif

The Atlantic had already put out 4 named storms by mid July. From the looks of it, you'd think 1997 would be similar to 1995 and 1996. But then El Nino quickly took over.

Here's Hurricane Danny. Danny had just formed an eye.

http://www.cwrc.geo.usouthal.edu/satellite/danny/danny5.gif

Here's the only major hurricane from 1997 Atlantic hurricane season. Hurricane Erika was also the final hurricane in the Atlantic that year.

http://weather.unisys.com/hurricane/atlantic/1997H/ERIKA/sat_vis_090818.gif
