Derek Presents His Talk at the AMS Hurr. Conf. in Miami

#1 Postby wxman57 » Tue May 04, 2004 8:54 pm

I attended Derek's talk this morning. Good job, Derek. The link to his extended abstract is here:

And here's Derek in action during the presentation. The room was too dark to get both Derek and the screen in good focus.

Thanks, Chris

If I can get permission, I will place the entire presentation online (available for everyone) and will let everyone know as soon as I do that.

I was quite nervous before the talk, but once the talk started, I was fine (although I had to switch lazer pointers on the fly as the one I was using kind of died on me after about 10 slides

Once you started talking I knew the anxiety would fade away rapidly. Again excellent work.

Would like o thank everyone for the kind words.

Today was a good day at the confrence. Had a nice talk this morning about how Florida has NOT been an active region since 1952, where we've only had 6 hurricanes making landfall on the EC of Florida since that time and how Cuba has been dry as well. May be seeing some sort of a climate change then (I sure dont mind, gives me much less to worry about).

Also had the chance to meet Steve Lyons at dinner this evening. He is extremely bright and is looking forward to the upcoming season

Well the Florida EC sure has been in a proverbial dry spell when it comes to hurricanes but Cuba certainly has not with 6 hurricanes in the last 8 years affecting every part of the island.

I'm waiting for John Cangialosi (office mate of mine) to get his presentation uploaded, before releasing mine. I think there is no problem via posting the presentation. I have it now on NWHHC, but have yet to make the link public as I am waiting for his as well
