I know most people are focused on Florida, but isn't New England getting overdue for a hurricane? It has been almost 13 years since Hurricane Bob.
I'm concerned that New England might be feeling a sense of complacency because of this.
Here's a list of hurricanes that have either struck or moved offshore of New England since 1950. I've decided to include Long Island in this:
1950: Hurricane Able (Category 4) moved offshore as a Category 2
1950: Hurricane Dog (Category 5) moved offshore as a Category 1
1953: Hurricane Barbara (Category 2) moved offshore as a Category 1
1953: Hurricane Carol (Category 4) made landfall in Maine as a Category 1
1954: Hurricane Carol (Category 2) made landfall as a Category 2 (some say Category 3)
1954: Hurricane Edna (Category 3) made landfall on Cape Cod as a Category 3
1958: Hurricane Daisy (Category 3) moved offshore as a Category 3
1960: Hurricane Donna (Category 5) made landfall as a Category 3 (Long Island only; Category 2 elsewhere)
1961: Hurricane Esther (Category 4) offshore as a Category 3 (Long Island and Rhode Island experienced hurricane conditions from Esther)
1961: Hurricane Frances (Category 3) offshore as a Category 1
1962: Hurricane Alma (Category 2) offshore as a Category 2
1962: Hurricane Daisy (Category 2) offshore as a Category 1
1963: Hurricane Ginny (Category 2) struck to the east of Maine as a Category 2
1969: Hurricane Gerda (Category 3) Made landfall on Maine as a Category 2
1976: Hurricane Belle (Category 3) Made landfall as a Category 1
1985: Hurricane Gloria (Category 4) Made landfall as a Category 3 (Briefly on Long Island only; Category 1-2 elsewhere)
1991: Hurricane Bob (Category 3) Made landfall as a Category 2
