Should the US turn control of Fallujah to Iraqie exgenerals?

I say if they are going to turn the control of Fallujah to Saddam's exgenerals :grr: they must be sure that those Iraqies do their work and make the insurgents return their arms to them because IMO this agreement that the US and the Iraqies reached I dont trust it a bit.

I have a bad feeling about this decision. It worries me that the so-called officers of Saddam's old regime that are taking over may not have the interests of the people of Iraq at heart. How can we be sure we can trust them?

I also worry that the United States is giving the rest of the world the impression that they have come up against something they can't handle. In my opinion, the United States looks like they are backing down against what? Maybe a couple hundred dissadents vrs the entire US military?

By the way, CNN is reporting that a similar deal is in the works for Najaf - the other hotbed where that cleric is holed up.

I'm not thrilled about it, but we have to do it sooner or later. The Iraqi leadership needs to be experienced and not some recently recruited $200/month police officer, so who do you use??? The timing worries me, but its a damned if you do, damned if you don't proposition. Bush will take heat no matter what, but what else is new?...he is quite use to it.

It has been said, and quite rightly, about alliances by Western powers with entities in the Middle East; "You don't have 'allies", you 'rent' them."

As odious as it may appear on the surface, this may well be the way to go re: Fallujah, and perhaps, to some extent, Najaf.

FI, Afganistan wouldn't be as far along as they are if we hadn't "rented" the services of tribal and regional warlords; Iraq could possibly be another scenario in which this could, and some say should be (or, have been) implemented.

I'm skeptical, which is why I didn't regsiter a vote on this question...time and experience alone will tell.
