Thanks Mary, it runs in my family too. I'll get a physical scheduled and press for the appropriate tests. With my insurance, it has to go thru my family doctor first.

Shawn - high 5'ing ya right back!!! Josh, David (I could hear your horn all the way over here!), Jeremy - thanks so much for the well wishes! Pawlee - so sorry to hear about your dad. My father died from cancer, as I posted. So I know how utterly helpless you can feel. I miss my dad to this very day. Ed - glad to hear you're seeing the doc too. I'm living proof that it can be caught early and I'll just say a prayer you won't have anything to worry about at all. Just don't skip that call to the primary doc! Hgirl - thanks for the very kind words too! Thanks again everyone - we're going out to dinner at the restaurant where Jim and I had our first date. It's in an old mansion that has excellent German food. Think I'll order the chicken paprikash - it's steam cooked and the meat just falls off the bones (sorry Linda if you're reading this). Sooooo good. We're taking the girls if they want to go.

You sure are all wonderful wx friends - pat yourselves on the back now.....high 5's all around Shawn!!!

Getting mighty sappy in here.....LOL So I think I'll stop now.

Such fantastic, celebratory news Miss Mary....may you continue to fight this deadly disease and remain victorious.

I salute all survivors of cancer in loving memory of my deceased father, a fallen victim of bone cancer.

Wonderful news, Miss Mary! If I had not listened to a former co-worker to have a lump in my throat checked out, I might not be here now. In late Sept. 1999 I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. The doctor told me they caught it just before it spread out of the gland. The feelers had penetrated the inner lining of the thyroid gland but had NOT penetrated thru to the outer surface. I have one more year before I can claim that I am cancer free.

I also lost my Dad to colon cancer in 1999. It is indeed a very helpless feeling to not be able to do anything to stop it!! I am due for another check up this year so as soon as the insurance kicks in late next month that is one of the first appointments I will make. BTDT, and it ain't no fun, but I have a lot of living and CELEBRATING WITH MISS MARY TO DO!!!!

J and David - we have more in common than we thought, huh? It is so hard to lose a parent to cancer. You feel so helpless. In my dad's case he must have ignored symptoms and by the time he was diagnosed with colon cancer, it was too late. He was gone within 5 weeks. We didn't have time to prepare for losing him! I was in shock for probably a year. This was my first experience with cancer, and I don't think I really understood it very well back then. Each day brought something new, one day he was in the hospital and the next, they were talking nursing home. The cancer quickly spread to his brain and my dad didn't recognize any of us. In the blink of an eye, he didn't know us. That really broke my heart. He thought it was WWII time and could hear planes going overhead. Another woman in the nursing home thought my dad was her husband. Used to pat his arm at the lounge table and say things like - remember Bob, when we used to....and my dad would nod his head as if he was her husband! Needless to say, it was such a sad, sad time for me. And I had a baby then to care for! I was watching one life being snuffed out and another just starting. In some ways having a baby then helped. I'd just hug Nina and rock her. And of course cry.

So when I got cancer, boy it really hit home. Suddenly I was thrown so many terms, stats, tests, I was quite confused. I really wanted another colon cancer patient to sit with me, to say - it will get better. You'll be fine, in time. Didn't mean to rhyme there....LOL I kept thinking of poor Jay Monahan (Katie Couric's husband who died from colon cancer). So what I'm trying to say is I've been on a personal mission since my cancer, and in honor of my dad too (who could have been saved had he sought medical attention much sooner) to get the word out! Go to the doctor if you have a cancer risk in your family, don't wait. Don't assume it won't strike you. I'm sure j and David, you both feel the same way. Once cancer hits your family or personally, you are changed forever.

Thanks again for all your well wishes everyone! We are indeed celebrating tonight! My girls are going with us too.

Mary

PS - Tracy, I see my topic brought you out of hiding!!! Hey, I can still work wonders with long lost friends, indirectly of course. No direct pestering needed!!! Hope you're doing well also.

Well, my gosh - look who posted!!! Angel, hello-hello! How the heck are you? How's your job going at the doctor's office? And how is your daughter these days? She has to be in 4th Grade by now? Time sure is flying by!!! My oldest is already touring college campuses! She'll be a HS senior next year.

Don't be a stranger Angel. Just seeing a post from you brought back so many memories from chat days....like when furry met Jim Cantore! What a wild night that was in chat, huh?

Mary

PS - Eric, thanks for your congrats! It is wonderful to reach my 5 year mark!
