Ok you wanted to see one of the handfull cat 5 canes that made landfall in the US? Here is Camille however you may know that in 1969 the quality of the pic is not as great as they are now but here is she before landfall at link below.Anyone who may have more Camille pics can post them.

Nice one, King of Weather! I experienced Hurricane Gloria in southeastern Massachusetts in late September 1985. I remember a lot of trees falling in the woods behind our house. It had quite a [long] track, too.

I remember Hurricane Gloria as well, even though I was just 4. I lived in Peabody, Massachusetts. Ironically, the eye moved through East Longmeadow, where I currently live.

Some call Gloria a flop, but that was because the media hyped her to be the East Coast Armageddon. She did have the potential to be destructive if she had struck at high tide.

But even far from the center, Gloria WAS a bad storm. I remember my parents taping up the windows and everything. My dad was on call at the hospital, so my mom stayed home with my older brother and my twin sister. (I'm older by 2 minutes)

Anyway, although we were far from the eye, I think Peabody was in the upper-right quadrant of the storm. I remember the lights constantly flickering on and off. The power would go out for short periods of time. The clouds were dark and moving quickly. There was lots of rain and the wind was blowing hard.

At one point, I remember my mom taking me and my siblings onto the porch. I remember seeing the trees pretty much bending over in the wind. The wind was also whistling through the telephone and electrical wires. The wind was also howling, which scared me. At that point, we went back in the house.

Around my neighborhood, there were tree branches down everywhere. Nearby, a large willow tree fell in somebody's yard.

[Hyperstorm]

This is Hurricane Esther of 1961, the first hurricane to be discovered by a weather satellite. Esther formed in the tropical Atlantic and threatened to strike New England as a strong hurricane, but quickly weakened to a tropical storm before making landfall in Maine.

P.S. It is a fuzzy picture, but at least you get to see what meteorogists back then were seeing...A hurricane for the first time on satellite!

This one is the latest and earliest hurricane to occur in the Atlantic. It became a hurricane on December 30, 1954 and remained a hurricane until January 4, 1955. It's Hurricane Alice!

This one is a radar pic of Hurricane Audrey. Not only the only Category 4 hurricane to occur in the Atlantic during June, but also the deadliest U.S. hurricane of the latter half of the 20th Century. Audrey left more than 550 people dead.

Here is Hurricane Helene from 1958. A borderline Category 3/4, Helene's eye brushed the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

I found this impressive pic of what was a cat 5 hurricane Andrew.

Does anyone else think Andrew looks odd in this picture? He seems kinda oval shaped at the top.
